தோற்றினான் எயிறு கவ்வித் தொழில் உடை அரக்கன் தன்னைத் தேற்றுவான்
to convince the arakkaṉ who committed evil acts and appeared biting the lips with the teeth (in anger)
சிக்கெனத் தவிரும் என்று (1) சென்று சொல்லவும்
though he was told to give up the idea quickly going to him without heeding that advice

வீற்றினை உடையன் ஆகி
thinking only of his own greatness.

Civaṉ in Avaḷivaṇallūr has the strength of destroying the strength of that arakkaṉ who rose laughing boisterously

அரக்கர் எல்லாம் மிகச் சழக்கு ஆயிற்று, வெம்பினார் என்று செம்பினால் எடுத்த கோயில் சிக்கெனச் சிதையும் என்ன நம்பினார் என்று சொல்லி நன்மையால் மிக்கு நோக்கி
looking at those who were suffering from Irāvaṇaṉ's cruel acts, with great compassion to grant them happiness and thinking that they firmly believed that the palace which resembled copper in colour will quickly meet with ruin and all the arakkar were distressed in mind that the acts of Irāvaṇaṉ were becoming directly opposite to the right path.
அம்பினால் அழிய எய்தார் அவளிவணல்லூரார் (ஏ)
Civaṉ in Avaḷivaṇallūr caused it to be destroyed by Irāmaṉ shooting arrow in it.

can I think low as there is the fame of my enormous strength?
தோட் பெருவலியினால் யான் மலையைத் தொலைப்பன் என்று
thinking I shall remove the mountain (which is an obstacle) by the great strength of my shoulders.
வேட்பட வைத்தவாறே
as soon as he fixed his toe to share the fate of Kāmaṉ who was destroyed.
விதிர்விதிர்த்து அரக்கன் வீழ்ந்து ஆட்படக் கருதிப் புக்கார் அவளிவணல்லூரார் (ஏ)
Civaṉ in Avaḷivaṇallūr took it into his mind to admit Irāvanaṉ into his grace when he fell down trembling.

நிலைவலம் வல்லன் அல்லன்
Irāvaṇaṉ was not capable of victory which was permanent.
நேர்மையை நினைய மாட்டான்
would never think of right ways.
சிலைவலம் கொண்ட செல்வன் சீரிய கயிலை தன்னைத் தலைவலம் கருதிப்புக்குத் தாக்கினான் தன்னை அன்று அலைகுலை (2) ஆக்குவித்தார் அவளிவணல்லூரார் (ஏ)
Civaṉ in Avaḷivaṇallūr destroyed long ago Irāvaṇaṉ who had the victory gained by his archery and who attacked the eminent Kayilai thinking of the strength of his heads.

தவ்வலி ஒன்றன் ஆகித் தனது ஒரு பெருமையாலே (1) மெய்வலியுடையன் ஆகி
having the strength of his body by his unequalled greatness and but really having only the decreasing strength as his help.
மிகப் பெருந் தேரை ஊர்ந்து
flying on a very big chariot.
செவ்வலி கூர் விழியால் (2) சிரம்பத்தால் எடுக்குற்றானை அவ்வலி தீர்க்க வல்லார் அவளிவணல்லூரார் (ஏ)
Civaṉ in Avaḷivaṇallur is capable of destroying that strength of the arakkaṉ who lifted by all his ten heads, looking at it with his red and very cruel eyes;

without knowing what is good for him.
நடு இலா அரக்கர் கோமான்
the king of the arakkar who had no uprightness.
வன்மையே கருதிச் சென்று
approaching the mountain thinking only of his strength.
வலிதனைச் செலுத்தல் உற்று
pushing forward that strength.
கன்மையான் மலையை ஓடிக் கருதித்தான் எடுத்து
when he lifted the mountain running towards it thinking that it was simply a stone.
வாயால் அம்மையோ என்ன வைத்தார் அவளிவணல்லூரார் (ஏ)
Civaṉ in Avaḷivaṇallūr made him cry aloud out of pain - `amma'

கதம்படப் போதுவார்கள் போதும் அக்கருத்தினால்
with that intention when people who were apt to be angry went along with him.
சிதம்பட நின்ற நீர்கள் சிக்கெனத் தவிரும் என்று
admonishing them you who are here to parade your wisdom! leave me quickly.
மதம்படு மனத்தன் ஆகி
with an arrogant mind.
வன்மையான் மிக்கு (1) நோக்க
when the strong Irāvaṇaṉ looked at the mountain very often (to uproot it )
(2) அதம் பழத்து உருவு செய்தார் அவளிவணல்லூரார் (ஏ)
Civaṉ in Avaḷivaṇallūr made him by crushing his body to be a mass of flesh like an over-ripe fruit of the fig-tree.

நாடு மிக்கு உழிதர்கின்ற நடு இலா அரக்கன் தன்னை ஓடு மிக்கு என்று சொல்லி
telling the arakkaṉ who had no uprightness and who was wandering in the countries often, `run quickly'.
ஊன்றினான் உகிரினாலே
pressed him with the nail of toe.
பாடி மிக்கு உய்வன் என்று பணிய
when he paid homage, being unable to bear it, by saying I shall save myself by singing his praises much
நல் திறங்கள் காட்டி
showing his good graces such as long life, a sword.
ஆடும் அரவம் மிக்குப் பூண்டார் அவளிவணல்லூரார் (ஏ)
Civaṉ in avaḷivaṇallūr adorned himself profusely with cobras which dance spreading their hoods.

Māl who digged the earth taking the form of a pig and Piramaṉ who is in the beautiful lotus (transforming into a swan)
ஞானம் தான் உடையராகி
possessing intelligence to know Civaṉ.
நன்மையை அறியமாட்டார்
could not know the good way to see him.
சேனம் (தான்) நிலா அரக்கன் செழுவரை எடுக்க ஊன்றி
fixing his toe firmly when the arakkan who was wandering always like the kite, lifted the fertile mountain.
ஆனந்த அருள்கள் செய்தார் அவளிவணல்லூரார் (ஏ)
Civaṉ in Avaḷivaṇallūr granted his grace in many ways which bring happiness.

when the arakkan ran and shook the mountain

தாக்கினான் விரலினாலே தலை பத்தும் தகர ஊன்றி
struck him by fixing the toe firmly to make all the ten heads to be crushed to pieces.
தன்னை அஞ்ச நோக்கினார் நோன்பு இற ஊன்று சொல்லி
removing the toe which was fixed to destroy his penance and the pain he sustained by being crushed, looked at him with compassion when he was seized with fear,
