ஆவடு துறையுளானே
Civaṉ in Āvaṭuturai!
மஞ்சனே
youth!

மணியும் ஆனாய்
you are the ruby also for me!
மரகதத் திரளும் ஆனாய்
you are also the heap of emeralds!
நெஞ்சுளே புகுந்து நின்று (1) நினைதரு நிகழ்வினானே
you are the thoughts that you kindle, having entered into my mind.
துஞ்சும்போதாக வந்து
coming to me when I am asleep

துணை எனக்கு ஆகி நின்று
standing by my side as my companion
அஞ்சல் என்று அருளவேண்டும்
you must bestow your grace by saying, Do not be afraid!

ஆவடு துறையுளானே, ஆன் உகந்து ஏறுவானே
the Lord in Āvaṭutuṟai! one who rides on a bull desiring it!
நான் உகந்து உன்னை நாளும் நணுகுமா(று) கருதியேயும்
though I think of approaching you daily, desiring it.
ஊன் உகந்து ஓம்பும் நாயேன் உள்ளுற ஐவர் நின்றார் தான் உகந்தே உகந்த தகவு இலாத் தொண்டனேன் நான்
I am a devotee who has no worth, and who desired what all the five sensory organs which are inside me, wish to do, and who is low as the dog, only nourishing the body wishing it.

ஆவடு துறை உளானே
the Lord in Āvaṭuturai!
கட்டமே வினைகள் ஆன இவை காத்து ஆளாய்
admit me as your protege, protecting me from the karmam-s which afflict me.
ஒட்டவே (1) ஒட்டி நாளும் உன்னை உள்வைக்க மாட்டேன்
I am incapable of fixing you in my mind daily betaking myself for protection, as you are sticking to my soul.
பட்ட வான் தலை கை ஏந்திப் பலி திரிந்து ஊர்கள் தோறும் அட்ட மா உருவினானே
one who has eight great forms and who wanders in every village holding in the hand a large and lifeless skull.

அருமையாம் நஞ்சம் உண்ட ஆவடு துறையுளானே
Lord in Āvaṭutuṟai who consumed the poison difficult to be consumed by others!
பெருமை நன்று உடைய தில்லை என்று நான் பேசமாட்டேன்
I am incapable of praising Tillai (Citamparam) as having greatness in an abundant measure.
ஒருமையால் உன்னை உள்கி உகந்து வான் ஏற மாட்டேன்
I am incapable of ascending into Civalokam becoming great by concentrating all my thoughts on you.
நான் கருமை இட்டு ஆய ஊனைக் கட்டமே கழிக்கின்றேன்
I am wasting the body which I got by being friendly with āṇavam

மட்டு அவிழ் கோதை தன்னை மகிழ்ந்து ஒரு பாகம் வைத்து அட்ட மா நாகம் ஆட்டும் ஆவடுதுறையுளானே
the Lord in āvatutuṟai who places a lady who is as tender as a garland from which honey flows, and who causes the eight big serpents to dance.
துட்டனாய்
myself being mischievous by nature.
வினை அது என்னும் சுழித்தலை அகப்பட்டேனைக் கட்டனா ஐவர் வந்து கலக்காமைக்காத்துக் கொள்வாய்
please protect me who is caught in the whirlpool of karmam-s, from being confused by the five sensory organs, which beset me with difficulties

ஆர் அழல் ஏந்தி ஆடும் ஆவடு துறையுளானே
the Lord in Āvatutuṟai who dances holding a fire of unbearable heat!
கார் அழல் கண்டம் மேயாய்
who has a neck which has the cruel and black poison like fire!
கடி மதில் புரங்கள் மூன்றும் ஓர் அழல் அம்பினாலே உகைத்துத் தீஎரிய மூட்டி
having kindled the fire, by discharging an arrow which has fire at its tip, in the three cities which had well-guarded walls of fortification.

நீர் அழல் சடை உளானே
who has a Caṭai as red as fire and which bears the water (of Kaṅkai)

ஆவடு துறை உளானே
the Lord in Āvaṭutuṟai!
சிந்தையுள்ளே செறிவு இல்லேன்
I have no self-restraint in my mind.
சிவனடி தெரிய மாட்டேன்
I am capable of understanding the grace of Civaṉ
குறி இலேன்
I have no aim to pursue in life.
குணம் ஒன்று இல்லேன்
I do not have even one good quality to obtain the grace of Civaṉ.
கூறுமா(று) கூறமாட்டேன்
I am incapable of praising your fame in the way it is mentioned in vētam-s and ākamam-s.
நெறிபடு மதி ஒன்று இல்லேன்
I do not possess knowledge with will to pursue the path of getting the grace of Civaṉ
நினையுமா(று) நினையமாட்டேன்
I am incapable of thinking of you in the manner I should do it.
அறிவு இலேன்
I do not possess knowledge gained from studying great works.
அயர்த்துப் போனேன்
I became weary

{$} ஆலம் மா நஞ்சு உண்ட ஆவடுதுறையுளானே
the Lord in āvaṭutuṟai who drank the big poison called ālam.
[[ஆலம் - ஆலகாலம்; ālakālam]]
கோலம் மா மங்கை தன்னைக் கொண்டு ஒரு கோலம் ஆய சீலமே அறிய மாட்டேன்
I am incapable of understanding the nature of the peerless form, which has a great lady of exquisite beauty.
செய்வினை மூடி நின்று ஞாலம் ஆம் இதனுள் என்னை நைவியா வண்ணம் நல்காய்
bestow your grace on me so that the karmam-s done by me cannot inflict sufferings on me in this world, enveloping me.

நெடியவன் மலரினானும் நேர்ந்து இருபாலும் நேட
Māl who assumed a tall form and Piramaṉ who is in the (lotus) flowers, having agreed between themselves to go digging down and to fly up, to search for Civaṉ.
கடியது ஓர் உருவம் ஆகி
having assumed a fearful form that can be realised only by the mind.
கனல் எரி ஆகி நின்ற வடிவு இன்ன வண்ணம் என்றே தாம் பேசல் ஆகார்
they could not express in so many words that this was the nature of his form which was a burning fire.
அடியனேன் நெஞ்சினுள்ளார் ஆவடுதுறையுளானே
the Lord in Āvaṭutuṟai is [in] the mind of his humble servant, his slave.

மலைக்கு நேராய் அரக்கன் சென்று உற மங்கை அஞ்ச
as the young lady feared because the arakkaṉ went straight towards the mountain
தலைக்கு மேல் கைகளாலே தாங்கினான் வலியை மாள உலப்பு இலா விரலால் ஊன்றி ஒறுத்து
punishing by pressing down with the toe which does not know destruction to destroy the strength of that arakkaṉ who lifted and kept the mountain above his head by his twenty hands.
அவற்கு அருள்கள் செய்து அலைத்த வான் கங்கை சூடும் ஆவடுதுறை உளான்
the Lord in Āvaṭutuṟai adorns his head with dashing Kaṅkai descending from heaven, having bestowed different graces on him.
