{$} ஆதியில் பிரமனார் (தாம்) அடி இணைக்கீழ் அர்ச்சித்தார்
Piramaṉ performed worship at the feet of the Lord by scattering flowers and uttering his names at the beginning of creation.
ஓதிய வேத நாவர் உணருமாறு உணரல் உற்றார்
Civaṉ understood it so that Piramaṉ who chanted the vētam can be conscious of it.
பல் பூக்கோதி வண்டு அறையும் சோலைக் குறுக்கை வீரட்டனார்
the Lord in Kuṟukkai Vīraṭṭam which has gardens where the bees hum with great noise, having worked through many flowers (for gathering honey)
சோதியுள் சுடராய்த் தோன்றி
appearing as the light of happiness in the effulgent light of spiritual illumination.
சொல்லினை இறந்தார்
he transcends words that try to describe him.

{$} நீற்றினை நிறையப் பூசி
Besmearing his body profusely with holy ash.
நித்தலும் நியமஞ்செய்து
and carrying out daily his routine worship
ஆற்றுநீர்பூரித்து ஆட்டும்
bathing god with the water of the Kaviri, having filled the pots with it.
(1) சாற்று நாள் அற்றது என்று அந்தணனாரைக் கொல்வான்
to take away the life of the antaṇaṉ thinking that the span of life granted to him came to an end.
குறுக்கை வீரட்டனார் தருமராசற்காய் வந்த கூற்றினைக் குமைப்பர்
Civaṉ in Kuṟukkai Vīraṭṭam trod upon the god of death who came ordered by Tarumarācaṉ

கூற்று (Kūṟṟu) is his servant who does his bidding;

{$} தழைத்தது ஓர் ஆத்தியின்கீழ்
under the ātti tree which grew luxuriantly.
தாபரம் மணலால்கூப்பி
heaping the sand in the river, maṇṇi, in the form of a civaliṅkam.
அழைத்து
inviting Civaṉ to condescend to be present in that liṅkam
அங்கே
on that civaliṅkam
ஆவின்பாலைக் கறந்து கொண்டு ஆட்டக்கண்டு
seeing (his son bathe the civaliṅkam with the milk which was milked from the cows.
பிழைத்த தன் தாதை தாளைப் பெருங் கொடுமழுவால் வீச
when he cut the leg of his father who committed a great sin by kicking the milk-pots, with a big and cruel battle-axe.
குறுக்கை வீரட்டனார் குழைத்தது ஓர் அமுதம் ஈந்தார்
the Lord in Kuṟukkai Vīraṭṭam gave him a well-cooked food
[[குழைத்தது ஓர் அமுதம் figuratively means eternal bliss;

{$} சிலந்தியும் ஆனைக்காவில் திரு நிழற் பந்தர் செய்து
even the spider which constructed a sacred panṭal in Āṉaikkā to provide shade to the civalinkam, with its web.
அவன் உலந்து இறந்தபோதே
as soon as it died there by being done to death by the elephant.
கோச்செங்கணானுமாக
as Kōcceṅkaṇaṉ, who was fit to wear a crown
குறுக்கை வீரட்டனார் பிறப்பித்தார்
Kuṟukkai Vīraṭṭaṉār made it to be born
கலந்த நீர்க்காவிரிசூழ் சோணாட்டுச் சோழர் தங்கள் குலந்தனில்
in the family of the kings who ruled Coṇāṭu girt by the Kāviri into which many rivers mingle.

{$} உடன் ஏறு ஏழ் அடர்த்தான்
Māl in the incarnation of Kaṇṇaṉ, controlled seven bulls simultaneously
ஆயிரம் பூ எண்ணிக் கொண்டு
having in his hand thousand flowers having counted them.
ஆறுடைச் சடையினானை அடியிணைக்கீழ் அர்ச்சித்தான்
performed worship by scattering flowers at the feet of the Lord who has on his Caṭai a river (kaṅkai)
ஓர் பூக்குறைய
when one flower was missing
வேறும் ஓர் (பூவேண்டி)
to fill up the number of thousand and when he wanted one more flower.
மெய்ம் மலர்க் கண்ணை (1) மிண்ட
when he removed his eye which was like the flower, from his body.
குறுக்கை வீரட்டனார் கூறும் ஓர் ஆழி ஈந்தார்
Kuṟukkai Vīraṭṭaṉār gave him a discus which he wished for

{$} கல்லினால் எறிந்து
after pelting the civaliṅkam with stones
கஞ்சிதாம் உண்ணும் சாக்கியனார்
the Cākkiya nāyaṉar who was in the habit of having kañci after that.
நெல்லின் ஆர் சோறு உணாமே நீள்விசும்பு ஆளவைத்தார்
made him rule over the Civalōkam so that he may not even eat rice got from paddy.
[[The idea is he attained bliss without the necessity of having to eat rice in the next birth]]
எல்லி ஆங்கு
at night.
எரிகை ஏந்தி
holding fire in his hand
எழில் திகழ் நட்டம் ஆடி
performing beautiful dances
கொல்லி ஆம் பண் உகந்தார் குறுக்கை வீரட்டனார்
kuṟukkai vīraṭṭaṉar liked the melody-type kolli.

{$} காப்பது ஓர் வில்லும் அம்பும் ஓர் இறைச்சிப்பாரம் கையது
in the hand there were a bow for protection, an arrow and a heavy weight of cooked meat.
[[கையது is singular; it should be linked to வில், அம்பு and பாரம்]]
தோற்பெருஞ் செருப்புத் தொட்டு
Removing with a big sandal made of leather, the flowers and leaves on the head of Civaliṅkam
தூயவாய்க்கலசம் ஆட்டி
bathing the god with the water brought in the pot, his pure mouth.
பெருங்கண்கள் தீ செய்ய குருதி நீர் ஒழுக
when the blood which is red like fire was flowing from the eyes.
தன்கண் கோப்பதும்
as soon as Tiṇṇaṉār inserted an arrow in his eye.
குறுக்கை வீரட்டனார் பற்றிக் கொண்டார்
the Lord in Kuṟukkai Vīraṭṭam caught his hand securely.
[[The story is as follows: God wanted to show Tiṇṇaṉar's devotion to Civakōcariyār; on the sixth day blood was flowing from the right eye. Tiṇṇaṉar tried all cures to stop it but of no avail. At last he removed his eye and grafted it on the lord's eye. When he was in ecstasy God made blood flow from the eye also. Now tiṇṇaṉar was happy as he had succeeded in stopping the flow of blood in the left eye. He thought: I have one more eye. I shall remove it. God could not bear the sight and firmly held his hand and said thrice kaṇṇappa! stop this!]]

{$} நிறை மறைக்காடுதன்னில்
in Maṟaikkāṭu which was worshipped by the Vētam which contains many truths before kaliyukam was born.
கறை நிறந்து எலி
when the black rat
தன் மூக்குச் சுட்டிட நீண்டு எரிதீபம் தன்னைக்கனன்று தூண்ட
trimmed with anger the light that was burning very high as it burnt its nose, as it came there with the intention of eating the ghee in the hollow of the lamp.
குறுக்கை வீரட்டனார் கொடுப்பர்
The god in Kuṟukkai Vīraṭṭam gave
நிறை கடல் மண்ணும் விண்ணும் நீண்டவான் உலகும் எல்லாம் குறைவற
without anything to be desired in the next birth, to rule over this earth surrounded by the sea full of water, heaven and the world where there is ever-lasting bliss.

{$} அணங்கு உமை பாகமாக அடக்கிய ஆதி மூர்த்தி
God who has a form which is the cause of all things and contains within him as a part Umai, the divine damsel.
வணங்குவார் இடர்கள் தீர்க்கும் மருந்து
who is the nectar for removing all the sufferings of those who bow to him
[[This is partial metaphor as sufferings are not compared to diseases.]]
அருந்தவத்த கணம் புல்லர்க்கு அருள்கள் செய்து
bestowing several kinds of grace upon kaṇampullar who had done severe penance (to be rid of the cycle of birth and death)
காதலாம் அடியார்க்கு என்றும் குணங்களைக் குறுக்கை வீரட்டனார் கொடுப்பர்
the Lord in Kuṟukkai Vīraṭṭam will give the eight qualities to the devotees who always think of him with love.
[[The eight qualities are:
1.முற்றறிவு (omniscience)
2.வரம்பிலின்ப (Happiness that has no finality)
3.இயற்கையறிவு (Knowing all things without being taught)
4.தன் வயம் (Being self-dependant)
5.வரம்பில் ஆற்ற (unlimited power)
7.தன் உடம்பு (pure body)
8.இயல்பாகவே பாசங்கள் இல்லாமை (being naturally free from attachments)

{$} எடுத்தனன் எழிற்கயிலை இலங்கையர் மன்னன் தன்னை அடுத்து ஒரு விரலால் ஊன்ற
when the king of the people of Ilaṅkai who uprooted and held the beautiful Kayilai, god pressed him down with a single toe, at once.
அலறிப்பொய் அவனும் வீழ்ந்து விடுத்தனன்
such a strong one as he roared and gave up that effort falling down.
கை நரம்பால் வேதகீதங்கள் பாட
when he sang songs from the Vetam with the help of the strings of the lute removed from his hand.
குறுக்கை வீரட்டனார் கொற்றவாள் நாள் கொடுத்தனர்
The Lord in Kuṟukkai Vīraṭṭam granted him a victorious sword and long life.
