{$} தேரையும் மேல் கடாவி
driving the car over Kayilai
திண்ணமாத் தெழித்து நோக்கி
looking at it with vigour uttering threats.
ஆரையும் மேல் உணரா ஆண்மையால் மிக்கான்தன்னை
Irāvaṇaṉ who was extremely proud of his strength which did not think anyone to be superior to him.
பாரையும் விண்ணும் அஞ்சப் பரந்த தோள் முடி அடர்த்து
pressing down the heads and shoulders which were extensive and made the people of this world and the celestials in heaven dread him.
காரிகை! அஞ்சல்' என்பார் கலி மறைக்காடனார் (ஏ)
the Lord in Maṟaikkāṭu of great bustle will assuage Umai saying, Lady! do not fear'
{4:34}__2+
{$} முக்கி முன் வெகுண்டு எடுத்த முடிசடை அரக்கர்கோனை (1) நக்கு இருந்து ஊன்றி
fixing the toe without any sign of perturbation and laughing at the King of the arakkar who had ten heads, and who lifted the mountain with anger and with great strain like a woman in travail.
சென்னி நாள்மதி வைத்த எந்தை
our father who wore on his head the fresh crescent.
அக்கு, அரவு, ஆமை, பூண்ட அழகனார்
and the beautiful god who wore as ornaments bones, cobras, and the shell of a tortoise.
கருத்தினாலே
with intention.
தெக்கு நீர்த் திரைகள் மோதும் திருமறைக்காடனார் (ஏ)
is the Lord in the sacred Maṟaikkāṭu where the waves that take in water dash against the shore.

{$} மிகப் பருத்து
being very stout
உலாவ மிக்கான்
and extremely wandering.
நக்கு
with a derisive laughter
ஒரு தேர் கடாவி
driving a chariot
அகப்படுத்து' என்று
ordering the driver Bring it under your control'.
தானும் (1) ஆண்மையால் மிக்கு அரக்கன்
the arakkaṉ too being proud of his valour.
உகைத்து எடுத்தான் மலையை
lifted the mountain, Kayilai jumping up.
ஆங்கே ஊன்றலும்
as soon as Civaṉ fixed his toe then itself.
அவனை நகைப்படுத்து அருளினான் ஊர் நான்மறைக்காடு (தான், ஏ)
Maṟaikkāṭu which was worshipped by the four Vētams is the place of Civaṉ who laughed at his foolishness and then granted his grace.

{$} அந்தரம் தேர் கடாவி
driving the car in the space.
யார் இவன்?' என்று சொல்லி
and saying, who is this person?
உந்தினான் மாமலையை
Irāvaṇaṉ who pushed out the great mountain Kayilai.
ஊன்றலும்
when Civaṉ fixed firmly his toe
ஒள் அரக்கன்
the renowned arakkaṉ.
பந்தம் ஆம் தலைகள்பத்தும் வாய்கள்விட்டு அலறி வீழ
to fall roaring opening his ten months which were on his head which were fixed to his body.
சிந்தனை செய்துவிட்டார் திரு மறைக்காடனார் (ஏ)
the Lord in Tiru Maṟaikkāṭu thought as such.

{$} தடுக்கவும் தாங்க (உம்) ஒண்ணாத் தன் வலிஉடையன் ஆகி
having strength that could not hindered and opposed by anybody.
கடுக்க ஓர் தேர் கடாவி
driving a chariot with speed.
கை இருபதுகளாலும் (இருபது கைகளாலும்)
with all the twenty hands.
எடுப்பன் நான்'
saying I shall lift this.
என்ன பண்டம்!'
what a small thing this is!
என்று எடுத்தானை ஏங்கி அடுக்கவே வல்லன் ஊர் ஆம் அணி மறைக்காடு (தான், ஏ)
beautiful Maṟaikkāṭu is the place of the Lord who is capable of pressing down the arakkaṉ who lifted the mountain to sob.

{$} நாள் முடிக்கின்ற சீரான் (1) நடுங்கியே மீது போகான்
the sun who ends the daytime never passed over above Ilaṅkai trembling with fear.
கோன் பிடித்து ஆர்த்த கையான்
Irāvaṇaṉ who caught hold of the planets and bound them in his hand.
கொடியன், (2) மாவலியன் என்று
and a cruel person thinking of himself as a very strong person.
நீள்முடிச் சடையர் சேரும் நீள்வரை எடுக்கல் உற்றான் தோள்முடி நெரிய வைத்தார் தொல்மறைக்காடனார் (ஏ)
the Lord in ancient Maṟaikkāṭu placed his toe to crush the heads and shoulders of Irāvaṇaṉ who lifted the high mountain in which Civaṉ who has a long caṭai coiled into a crown stays.

{$} பத்துவாய் இரட்டிக் கைகள் உடையன்
Irāvaṇaṉ who had ten mouths and twenty hands.
மாவலியன் என்று
thinking about himself I am a strong person.

தீமை செய்த பொருவலி அரக்கர்கோனைக் கத்தி வாய் கதற அன்று கால்விரல் ஊன்றியிட்டார், முத்து வாய் திரைகள் மோதும் முது மறைக்காடனார் (ஏ)
the Lord in ancient Maṟaikkāṭu where the waves which carry pearls dash against the shore, definitely fixed his toe on that day to make the King of the arakkar who committed sinful acts and had strength to fight with others, roar and cry with gaping mouths.

{$} (1) பக்கம் மேவிட்ட கையான் பாங்கு இலா மதியன் ஆகி
Irāvaṇaṉ having hands that hang like branches on the sides and having no discerning intellect.
மாமலைக்கீழ்ப் புக்கனன் போதுமாறு அறியமாட்டான்
went under the big mountain and did not know how to come out of it.
மிக்க மாமதிகள் கெட்டு வீரமும் இழந்தவாறே
as he lost his valour and lost his great intellect, completely.
நான்மறைக் காடனார்(ஏ) பூதம் எல்லாம் நக்கன
the pūtams of the Lord in Maṟaikkāṭu worshipped by the four Vētam-s laughed derisively at him.

{$} நாண் அஞ்சு கையன் ஆகி
having hands that the bow string was afraid of.
நல்முடி பத்தினோடு
with his ten crowns of exquisite workmanship.
பாண் அஞ்சுமுன் இழந்து
having lost his singing before he has frightened.
பாங்குஇலாமதியன் ஆகி
having no discerning mind.
நீண் அஞ்சு தான் உணரா
without realising the greatness of the mantram of five letters which is to be chanted for a long time.
நின்று எடுத்தானை அன்று ஏண் அஞ்சு கைகள் செய்தார், எழில் மறைக்காடனார் (ஏ)
the Lord in beautiful Maṟaikkāṭu made the hands to be afraid of Civaṉ's valour.

{$} கங்கைநீர் சடையுள் வைக்கக் காண்டலும், மங்கை ஊட
where Umai the young lady was sulky as soon as she saw, Civaṉ placing the water of Kaṅkai inside the caṭai.
தென்கையான்
Irāvaṇaṉ who ruled in the south.
தேர் கடாவி
driving his chariot.
சென்று மலையை எடுத்தான்
went and lifted the mountain.
(1) முன்கை மா நரம்பு வெட்டி முன் இருக்கு இசைகள் பாட
when he sang the Camavētan with music cutting the big nerves in the forearm and improvising it as a yāḻ in the lord's presence.
அம்மைவாள் அருளினான் ஊர் அணி மறைக்காடு (தான், ஏ)
the place of Civaṉ who granted a beautiful small sword is beautiful Maṟaikkāṭu;
