இந்திரனோடு தேவர் இருடிகள் ஏத்துகின்ற மந்தரம் ஆனார் (போலும்)
Civaṉ is the beautiful god to be praised by the sages, celestials and their king, Intiraṉ
[[as Intiraṉ is the king of the celestials he is spoken separately by joining ஓடு to his name]]
துதிக்கலாம் சோதி (போலும்)
is the light that deserves praise.
சந்திரனோடு கங்கை அரவையும் சடையுள் வைத்து மந்திரம் ஆனார் (போலும்) மாமறைக் காடனார்(ஏ)
is the god in the great Maṟaikkāṭu, who protects those who think of him, placing the crescent,

தேயன நாடர் ஆகி
having civalokam which he gives as gift to his devotees.
தேவர்கள் தேவர் (போலும்)
Civaṉ is superior to other tēvars.
பாயன நாடு அறுக்கும் பத்தர்கள்
Devotees who cut at the root of the attachment of the relations who live in the country. (பாயனம் relations)
பணிய வம்மின்
come here to fall at His feet.
காயன நாடு கண்டம் கதன் உளார் கானகண்டர்
he has such an anger that he can destroy countries and continents; he has a neck which is black, retaining poison
[[It may be interpreted this way also: he has a neck which always thinks of chanting the cāma vētam-s, and anger.]]

அறுமை இவ் உலகுதன்னை ஆம் எனக் கருதி நின்று
thinking that this world which is transient will be permanent.
வெறுமையின் மனைகள் வாழ்ந்து
leading a house-holder's life without any benefit.
வினைகளால் நலிவுணாதே
without being afflicted by bad acts.
சிறுமதி, அரவு, கொன்றை, திகழ்தரு சடையுள் வைத்து, மறுமையும் இம்மை (உம்) ஆவார் மா மாறைக்காடனார் (ஏ)
Civaṉ in the great Maṟaikkātu is the pleasure in this birth and the happiness enjoyable in the next birth.

கால் கொடுத்து
giving two legs.
இருகை ஏற்றி
having hoisted the two hands.
கழி நிரைத்து
fixing in a row sticks.
இறைச்சி மேய்ந்து
covering with flesh.
உதிர நீரால் தோல் படுத்து
and covering it with skin, with the water of blood.
சுவர் எடுத்து
raising a wall.
இரண்டு வாசல் ஏல்வு உடைத்தா (1) அமைத்து
fixing two gates appropriate to that.
(1) அங்கு
in that place.
ஏழு சாலேகம் பண்ணி
fixing seven windows and constructing the house of a body.
மால் கொடுத்து
giving confusion.
ஆவி வைத்தார் மா மறைக்காடனார் (ஏ)
the Lord in the great Maṟaikkātu infused life into that body.

விண்ணினார்
Civaṉ is in the heaven.
விண்ணின் மிக்கார்
he is in a state superior to heaven.
வேதங்கள் விரும்பி ஓதப் பண்ணினார்
he revealed the vētams to chant them with desire.
கின்னரங்கள் பத்தர்கள் பாடி ஆடக் கண்ணினாரே
took it into his mind that the pious people should play on a kind of lute, called kiṉṉaram, and dance.
[[கின்னரம் a kind of lute.]]

கண்ணினுள்ளே சோதியாய் நின்ற எந்தை
our father who is the light in the eyes.

is the Lord in the great maṟaikkāṭu around which the people of the world go from left to right, and praise.

அங்கையுள் அனலும் வைத்தார்
Civaṉ placed inside the palm fire.
அறுவகைச் சமயம் வைத்தார்
created six kinds of religious system.

திங்களைக் கங்கையோடு திகழ்தரு சடையுள் வைத்தார்
placed the crescent along with the kaṅkai in the shining caṭai.
மங்கையைப் பாகம் வைத்தார் மா மறைக்காடனார் (ஏ)
the Lord in the great maṟaikkāṭu placed a young lady as a half.

Civaṉ being himself a songster
கீதம் கேட்டு
listening to music.
கின்னரம் தன்னை வைத்தார்
placed a kind of lute by name kiṉṉaram;

having revealed the vetams.
வேதம் ஓதி
himself chanting those vētam6s.
விளங்கிய சோதி வைத்தார்
placed the brilliance of civañaṉam.
ஏதராய்
being the cause of all things.
நட்டம் ஆடி
performing dance.
இட்டமாய்
with attachment.
கங்கையோடு மாதை ஓர் பாகம் வைத்தார் மா மறைக்காடனார் (ஏ)
the Lord in the great maṟaikkāṭu placed a lady in a half in addition to kaṅkai.

கனத்தினார் வலி உடைய கடி மதில் அரணம் மூன்றும் சினத்தினுள் சினமாய் நின்று தீ எழச் செற்றனார் (போலும்)
possessing the kernel of anger, Civaṉ destroyed the cities of the strong acurar who were hardened in giving trouble to good people, for the fire to rise in the well guarded fortifications.
தனத்தினைத் தவிர்ந்து நின்று
leaving the attachment towards wealth.
தம் அடி பரவுவார்க்கு மனத்தினுள் மாசு தீர்ப்பார் மா மறைக்காடனார் (ஏ)
the Lord in the great maṟaikkāṭu will remove the impurities in the mind of those who praise his feet.

தேசனை
Civaṉ who has the form of effulgent light.
தேசன்தன்னை
who dwells in the country.
தேவர்கள் போற்று இசைப்பார்
the celestials praise him.
வாசனை செய்து நின்று
worshipping him with fragrant incense, flowers, and perfumed water.
வைகலும் வணங்குமின்கள்
pay homage to him daily.
காசினைக் கனலை என்றும் கருத்தினில் வைத்தவர்க்கு
to those who fixed the gold and the fire who is Civaṉ in mind.
மாசினைத் தீரப்பர் (போலும்) மா மறைக்காடனார் (ஏ)
the Lord in the great maṟaikkāṭu will remove all impurities.

பிணிஉடை யாக்கைதன்னைப் பிறப்பு அறுத்து உய்ய வேண்டில்
if pious people want to put an end to birth in this body which is the receptacle for all diseases and to save themselves.
பணியுடைத் தொழில்கள் பூண்டு பத்தர்கள் பற்றினாலே (உய்யலாம்)
the pious people can save themselves by doing acts of service to Civaṉ, with love.
(1) துணிவுடை அரக்கன் ஓடி எடுத்தலும் தோகை அஞ்ச
when Umai who was as gentle as the peacock was frightened when the arakkaṉ with determination, ran and lifted the mountain, kayilai.
மணி முடி பத்து இறுத்தார் மா மறைக்காடனார் (ஏ)
the Lord in the great Maṟaikkāṭu crushed the ten heads wearing crowns set with precious stones.
