{$} முன்பு எலாம் (1) இளையகாலம் மூர்த்தியை நினையாது ஓடி
hankering after worldly pleasures the former days when I was young, without the slightest thought of Civaṉ who has a beautiful form.
கண்கண இருமி
coughing making a sound Kankaṇa (Kankana is onametopoeia)
நாளும் கருத்து அழிந்து
without the thought of Civaṉ till the youthful age came to an end.
அருத்தம் இன்றி
without any aim.
பின்பகல் உணங்கல் அட்டும் பேதைமார் (2) போன்றேன்
I was like the foolish women who spread grain to dry in the afternoon when there is no sunshine.
உள்ளம் அன்பனாய் வாழமாட்டேன்
I am incapable of cherishing you with a loving mind.
அதிகை வீரட்டனீரே

கறைப்பெருங்கண்டத்தானே
Civaṉ who has a big black spot in the neck!
காய்கதிர்நமனை அஞ்சி
being afraid of the god of death who is like the scorching sun.
நிறைப்பெருங்கடலும் கண்டேன்
I hid myself in the big ocean full of water.
நீள்வரை உச்சி கண்டேன்
I ascended the peak of the tall mountain (thinking foolishly that I can escape death)

Civaṉ who wears a crescent on the great head!
பிஞ்ஞகா
destroyer of all things!
இவை அனைத்தும் அறுப்பது ஓர் உபாயம் காணேன்
I do not see any means of completely destroying these things such as the fear of death and birth and others.

{$} அதிகை வீரட்டனே
Civaṉ in atikai vīraṭṭam!
நாதனார் என்ன நாளும் நடுங்கினர் ஆகி
devotees quaking with fear daily to call themselves as masters.
தங்கள் ஏதங்கள் அறிய மாட்டார் இணை அடி தொழுதோம் என்பர்
they will not know they are committing the wrong of thinking themselves as masters but will say we worshipped with joined hands his two feet!
ஆதன் நான்
I who am an ignorant person.
அவன் என்று எள்கி
despiring you and thinking that I am yourself.
நின்பதம் பரவாது உய்க்கும் பழவினை பரிசிலேனே
I have the present of bad acts done in previous births as I am wasting my days without praising your feet.

{$} சுடலை சேர் சுண்ணமெய்யர்
Civaṉ has a body on which he smears the powder which is in the cremation-ground.
சுரும்பு உண விரிந்த கொன்றைப் படலைசேர் அலங்கல் மார்பர்
wears on his chest a garland in which green leaves mixed with koṉṟai flowers which blossom for the bees to drink the honey.

பழனம் சேர் கழனித் தெங்கின் மடலை நீர் கிழிய ஓடி அதனிடை மணிகள் சிந்தும் கெடில வீரட்டம்மேய கிளர்சடை முடியனாரே
is the Lord who has a shining caṭai coiled into a crown, and who is in Ketila vīraṭṭam where the water in Keṭilam flows to tear the flat leaf of cocoanuts which grow by the side of paddy fields adjacent to tanks and scatters gems into it.

{$} மந்திரம் உள்ளதாக
when there is the mantaram.
மறிகடல் எழும் நெய்யா
all the seven ocean which roll up and down being the ghee.
இந்திரன் வேள்வித்தீயில் எழுந்தது ஓர் (1) கொழுந்தின் வண்ணம் சிந்திரம் ஆக நோக்கி
seeing the poison which was like the flame with red colour which rose in the sacrificial fire of intiraṉ.
தெருட்டுவார்தெருட்டவந்து
after people who could convince him about his superiority came and convinced him.
(2) கந்திரம் முரலும் சோலைக் கானல் அம் கெடிலத்தார் (ஏ)
Civaṉ is in Keṭilam which has good odour by the gardens in which the clouds thunder.

{$} மைஞ்ஞலம் அனைய கண்ணாள் பங்கன் மாமலையை ஓடி மெய்ஞரம்பு உதிரம் பில்க விசைதணிந்து அரக்கன் வீழ்ந்து
the arakkaṉ ran and lifted the big mountain belonging to Civaṉ who has a lady whose eyes are as beautiful as the blue nelumbo flower, and fell down and his haste abated, and when blood flowed from the sinews of the body.

producing music from the nerves of his hand.
காதலால் இனிது சொன்ன கிஞ்ஞரம் கேட்டு உகந்தார் கெடில வீரட்டனார் (ஏ)
Civaṉ in Ketiḷa vīraṭṭam, was pleased to listen to the music by the instrument Kiññaram which was played with devotion pleasing to the ear.
