Civaṉ in Atikai Vīraṭṭam bounded by the river, Keṭilam.
புலியின் தோலை மடக்கினார்
wore round the waist the tiger's skin.
மாமணி நாகம் கச்சா முடக்கினார்
would the waist the cobra with a big gem, as a belt.
மொய் சடைக்கற்றை தன்மேல் முகிழ் வெண்திங்கள் (1) தொடக்கினான்
bound on the bundle of dense caṭai a crescent just rising.
தொண்டைச் செவ்வாய்த்துடியிடைப் பரவை அல்குல் அடக்கினார்
contained on the left half a lady who has red lips like the fruit of the common creeper of the hedge, a waist like the drum like the sand glass and broad sides.

சூடினார் கங்கையாளை
were the lady, Kaṅkai on the head.
சூடிய துழனி கேட்டு அங்கு ஊடினாள் நங்கையாளும்
even the lady of distinction became sulky hearing the sound of the water which he wore.
ஊடலை ஒழிக்கவேண்டி
to remove the sulkiness.
பாடினார் சாமவேதம்
sang the cāma vētam.

danced to the measure of time suited to that music.

கொம்பினார் குழைத்த வேனல் கோமகன் கோல நீர்மை நம்பினார் காணலாகா வகையது ஓர் நடலை செய்தார்
caused suffering to the beautiful nature of cupid who reigns the spring when all branches thrive and sprout, so that those who reposed trust in him could not see his body.
வெம்பினார் மதில்கள் மூன்றும் வில்லிடை எரித்து வீழ்த்த அம்பினார்
has an arrow which he fixed in the bow and caused the fall of all the three forts of the angry enemies;

Civaṉ in Vīraṭṭam on the bank of the Kēṭilam.
மறிபடக் கிடந்தகையர்
has in his hand a young one of a deer, united with it.
வளர் இளம் மங்கை பாகம் செறி படக்கிடந்த செக்கர்ச் செழுமதிக் கொழுந்து சூடி
wearing a waxing crescent on the caṭai which resembles the red sky and which is dense, and having on one half a young lady whose youthfulness is always increasing without descreasing.
பொறிபடக் கிடந்த நாகம் புகை உமிழ்ந்து அழல வீக்கி
tying a cobra which has spots, to spit fumes and be angry.
கீறிபட நடப்பர் (போலும்)
conducts himself to cut practical jokes.

{$} வரிவரால் உகளும் தெண்ணீர்க் கழனிசூழ்பழனவேலி, அரிவரால் வயல்கள் சூழ்ந்த அதிகை வீரட்டனார் (ஏ)
the Lord in Atikai Vīraṭṭam surrounded by fields where people who harvest engage in that work, and bound by tanks surrounded by fields of clear water where the fish varāl with lines frisks.
நரிவரால் கவ்வச் சென்று நல் தசை இழந்தது ஒத்த (1) தெரிவர் (ஆல்)
people with intelligence will discern the moral of the story of the fox losing its good flesh by trying to seize the varāl fish.
மால் கொள் சிந்தைதீர்ப்பது ஓர் சிந்தை செய்வர்
will think of removing the confusion which is in their minds.

having eaten the alms in the skull carnivorous birds having rolled it down to eat the flesh in it.
பலாசம் கொம்பின் சுள்ளலை
one who has the tender twig of a palas-tree
[[As Civaṉ is sometimes depicted as a bachelor he possesses the twig of a palas-tree]]

அள்ளல் கடப்பித்து ஆளும்

மாதர் கூறுஇட்டமெய்யர் ஆகி
having a body divided into one half for a lady.
கூறினார் ஆறும் நான்கும்
revealed the six ankams and for four vētams.
கீறிட்ட திங்கள் சூடி
wearing a part of the moon.
கிளர் தரும் சடையினுள் (ஆல்) இட்டு முடிப்பர் (போலும்)
will decorate with the river placing it inside the resplendent caṭai and tie it.

is not easy to be seen.
கருத்தில் வாரார்
is beyond the reach of ideas.
திருத்தலார்
cannot be reformed.
பொருத்தல் ஆகார்
cannot be united with any thing.

placed me combining me with the five senses which have no sense of shame

Civaṉ in atikai vīraṭṭam caused all his ten mouths which were fixed as one for each to roar, long ago, having scattered all the famous and big crowns.
