பத்தர்களோடு பாவையர் சூழ
pious devotees and young ladies surround the deity.
பலிப்பின்னே வித்தகக் கோல வெண்தலைவிரதிகள்
māviratis who wear garlands of white skulls of beautiful perfection, are following the offerings to god.
அத்தன் ஆதிரைநாளால் அது வண்ணம்
that is the beauty of the festival of Ātirai day of Civaṉ, our father

தீயார்
((those who do not worship him)) are bad people.
[[Those who do not worship Civaṉ in ārūr, though they live very near that place, are far away from god; though they are good people in other respects are in this respect bad people is another interpretation.]]
பிணிதான் தீரும் என்று (1) பிறங்கிக்கிடப்பாரும்
there are people who lie down densely crowded thinking that their diseases will be removed.
மணியே, பொன்னே, மைந்தா, மணாளா என்பார்கட்கு அணியான் ஆதிரை நாளால் அது வண்ணம்
that is the beauty of the festival of Ātirai day of Civaṉ who is near at hand to those who praise him as ruby, gold, strong youth, bridegroom!

in every street white flags and canopies adorn them.

சுடர் மாமணிகள் ஒளிதோன்ற
the brilliance of the big lustrous gems are conspicuous.
சாதிகள் ஆய பவளமும் முத்துத்தாமங்கள்
everywhere superior coral garlands and garlands of pearl are hung.
ஆதி ஆரூர் ஆதிரை நாளால் அதுவண்ணம்
that is the beauty of Civaṉ's festival of Ātirai day in Ārūr.

speaking about the attributes of Civaṉ.
தொண்டர்கள்
devotees.
கூடிப்பாடி
joining together and singing his praises.
பிணங்கி
being at variance with each other.
பித்தரைப் போலப் பிதற்றுவார்
will prattle like mad people.
வணங்கி நின்று வானவர்வந்து வைகலும் (தொழுவார்)
the celestials will descend to the earth and worship daily paying obeisance to him.
அணங்கன் ஆரூர் ஆதிரை நாளால் அது வண்ணம்
that is the beauty of the god in Ārūr on the festival of Ātirai day

{$} நிலவெண்சங்கும் பறையும்(ம்) ஆர்/ப்ப
the conch which is as white as the moonlight and the drum make roaring noise.
நிற்கில்லாப் பலரும் கல்லவடங்கள் (1) பரந்து எங்கும்
as the sound of the musical instrument, kallavatam which is played by many people who cannot afford separation from god spreads everywhere;

the peacocks with big tails mistaking it to be the thunder of the clouds.
களித்துவந்து அலமரு ஆரூர் ஆதிரைநாளால் அதுவண்ணம்
that is the beauty of the festival on Ātirai star in Ārūr where those peacocks come with joy and get confused.

the devotees will frighten, sobbing, opening the eyes and sounding forth.
தம் மாண்பு இலராய்
forgetting their good qualities and acts.
தரியார் தலையால் முட்டுவார்
being unable to stand firm on account of extasy they will hit against something with their heads.
எம்மான் ஈசன், எந்தை என் அப்பன்
our master, Civaṉ, original head of our family, my father.
என்பார்கட்கு
for those who praise him as mentioned above
அம்மான் ஆரூர் ஆதிரை நாளால் அது வண்ணம்
that is the beauty of the festival on Ātirai star celebrated in Ārūr belonging to our father, god.

{$} செந்துவர் வாயார் செல்வன சேவடி சிந்திப்பார்
ladies who have lips like the red coral will meditate upon the lotus red feet of the Lord.
மைந்தர்களோடும் மங்கையர் கூடி மயங்குவார்
the ladies of marriageable age will join with the youths and get charmed.
இந்திரன் ஆதி வானவர் சித்தர் எடுத்து ஏத்தும் அந்திரன் ஆரூர் ஆதிரை நாளால் அதுவண்ணம்
that is the beauty of the festival of atirai day in ārūr of Civaṉ who is praised vociferously by the celestials beginning with intiraṉ and persons who possess mystic powers. (அந்திரன் is a rare word like அணங்கன் the derivation is not known).

{$} முடிகள் வணங்கி மூவாதார்கள் முன்செல்ல
young people were going in the vanguard bowing their heads; (மூவாதார் may also mean the immortals who do not age).
வடிகொள் வேய்த்தோள் (1) வான் அரமங்கையர் பின் செல்ல
the celestial damsels of the heaven who have shoulders like bamboos of perfect shape to follow in the rear; (வடி-திருத்தம்)

பொடிகள் பூசிப் பாடும் தொண்டர் புடைசூழ
the devotees who sing smearing the different kinds of sacred ash, to surround on all sides (the different kinds of sacred ash, to surround on all sides) (the different kinds of sacred ash are Kaṟpam, anukaṟpam, upakaṟpam and akaṟpam, The last one is prohibited from smearing; periyapurāṇam, 63-1-4.)
அடிகள் ஆரூர் ஆதிரைநாளால் அதுவண்ணம்

those who say the days when we do not worship you are days of distress.
இன்பம் நும்மை ஏத்தும் நாள்கள் என்பாரும்
those who say the days when we praise you are happy days.
நும்பின் எம்மை நுழைய பணியே என்பாரும்
and those who say, order is to creep through a narrow passage behind you, are to be seen.
அன்பன் ஆரூர் ஆதிரை நாளால் அது வண்ணம்
that is the beauty of the festival of Ātirai day in Ārūr of Civaṉ who is the embodiment of love.

{$} பாரூர் பௌவத்தானைப் பத்தர் பணிந்து ஏத்த
when the pious people pay obeisance and praise Civaṉ who is like the ocean that moves slowly on the land.
சீர்ஊர்பாடல் ஆடல் அறாத செம்மாப்பு ஆர்ந்து
the majestic manner of songs containing the fame of Civaṉ and dances never cease, being full.
ஓர் ஊர் ஒழியாது உலகம் எங்கும் (1) பணிந்து ஏத்தும் ஆரூரன் தன் ஆதிரை நாளால் அது வண்ணம்
that is the beauty of the festival on Ātirai day of the god in Ārūr who is praised and paid obeisance all the world over without exception of any village.
