{$} சுண்ணவெண்சந்தனச் சாந்தும்
sacred ash which is considered to be equal to the paste of sandal-wood.
சுடர்த்திங்கட் சூளாமணியும்
the moon of white rays which he wears as the chief gem in the crest.
வண்ண உரிவை உடையும்
a dress made of colourful skin.
வளரும் பவளநிறமும்
the colour of coral, which is increasing.
அண்ணல் அரன்முரண் ஏறும்
a superior bull which can fight and also afford protection.
அகலம்வளாய அரவும்
the cobra which covers the chest.
(1) திண் நன் கெடிலப் புனலும் உடையார் ஒருவர் தமர் நாம்
we are the kindred of Civaṉ who has also the river, Ketilam which has strong and good water.
அஞ்சுவது யாது ஒன்றும் இல்லை
we need not be afraid of anything even in a small measure.
அஞ்சவருவதும் இல்லை
and there is nothing to be afraid of me.

{$} பூண்டது ஓர் கேழல் எயிறும்
the hog's tusk which is worn as an ornament.
பொன்திகழ் ஆமைபுரள
the tortoise shell which is shining like gold to roll up and down.
நீண்டதிண்தோள்வலம் (1) சூழ்ந்த நிலாக்கதிர்போலும் வெண்ணூலும்
the white sacred thread which is white like the ray of the moon and surrounds on the right side of the long and strong shoulders.

காண்தகுபுள்ளின் சிறகும்
the feather of the crane which is beautiful to look at.
கலந்த கட்டங்கக் கொடியும்
the flag of the battle axe which is combined with other flags;

{$} ஒத்தவடத்து இளநாகம் உருத்திரபட்டம் இரண்டும்
a young cobra which is as a single strand of garland suitable to the chest and two uruttinapaṭṭam worn on the shoulders;

முத்துவடக் கண்டிகையும்
the ornament worn on the neck which has stands of pearls;
[[முத்தின் தாழ்வடமும் சந்தனக்குழம்பும் நீறும் தன் மார்பினில் முயங்க (campantar, tiruvālavāy (9-7)]]
முளைத்து எழுமூவிலைவேலும்
a trident of three blades which appear like shooting sprouts.

a shrine very near atikai known as cittavaṭam

சேண் உயர் வீரட்டம் சூழ்ந்து தத்தும் கெடிலப்புனலும் உடையார் ஒருவர் தமர் நாம்
we are the kindred of the god who has Keṭilam of leaping water which surrounds vīraṭṭam and which rises into the sky.

{$} மடமான் மறிபொற்கலையும் மழுப்பாம்பு
holding a beautiful and young one of a stag, a battle-axe and a cobra on one hand.
ஒருகையில்வீணை
and holding a viṇai on another hand.
குடமால் வரைய திண்தோளும்
strong shoulders which are like the big mountain in the west.
குனிசிலைக்கூத்தின் பயில்வும்
the practice of dance bending the body like a bent bow.
இடம் மால் தழுவியபாகம்
with a half on the left side embracing Māl.
இருநிலன் ஏற்ற சுவடும்
the sign of having received the big world.
தடம் ஆர் கெடிலப் புனலும் உடையார் ஒருவர்தமர் நாம்
we are the kindred of the god who has Keṭilam of floods having its source in a hill; (தடம்-குன்று hill)

{$} பலபலகாமத்தர் ஆகிப் (1) பதைத்து எழுவார் மனத்துள்ளே, கலமலக் கிட்டுத்திரியும் கணபதி என்னும் களிறும்
the elephant faced god, Kaṇapati who wanders frightening in the minds of people who rise suffering intensely, having very many desires. (கலமலக்கிட்டு to fright:)

(2) வலம் ஏந்து இரண்டு சுடரும் வான் கயிலாய மலையும்
the two lights which have the strength to dispel darkness and the great mountain, Kayilāyam.
(3) நலம் ஆர்கெடிலப் புனலும் உடையார் ஒருவர் தமர் நாம்
we are the kindred of the God who has Keṭilam having water which confers good on people who bathe on it.

{$} கரந்தன கொள்ளிவிளக்கும்
the light of the fire brand which is concealed (this is Civaṉ's grace which shines without being known to souls).
கறங்குதுடியின் முழக்கும்
the loud sound of the sounding drum which tapers in the middle like the hour-glass.
பரந்த பதிணெண்கணமும் பயின்று அறியாதன பாட்டும்
songs which were not practised even by the eighteen classes of celestial hosts.
அரங்கிடை நூல் அறிவாளர் அறியப்படாதது ஓர் கூத்தும்
the dance performed in the stage which could not be known to people who are well-versed in treatises on dance.
நிரந்த கெடிலப்புனலும் உடையார் ஒருவர் தமர் நாம்
we are the kindred of Civaṉ who has also Keṭilam of spreadings water.

{$} கொலைவரி வேங்கை அதளும்
the skin of a tiger with stripes, which is capable of killing.
(1) குவவோடு இலங்கு பொன் தோடும்
the women's ear-ring made of fold which is shining on the shoulders.
குவவு-திரட்சி
it denotes shoulder by ākupeyar (ஆகுபெயர்).
விலைபெறுசங்கக்குழையும்
the men's ear-ring made of conch and has great value.
விலைஇல் கபாலக்கலனும்
the bowl of skull which has no estimate of price.
மலைமகள் கைக்கொண்டமார்பும்
the chest that has been occupied by the daughter of the mountain.
மணி ஆர்/ந்து இயங்கும் மிடறும்
the neck that shines resembling the sapphire;
[[நீலமணிமிடற்று ஒருவன் போல (puṟam, 91-6); நீலமணிபோலும் கரிய மிடற்றினையும் உடைய ஒருவனைப்போல (Do. old commentary).]]
உலவுகெடிலப் புனலும் உடையார் ஒருவர் தமர் நாம்
we are the kindred of Civaṉ who has also Keṭilam whose water spreads everywhere.

{$} ஆடல் புரிந்த நிலையும்
the state of performing dance.
அரையில் (1) அசைத்த அரவும்
the cobra that is tied in the waist.
பாடல் பயின்ற பல் பூதம் பல் ஆயிரம் கொள் கருவி நாடற்கு அரியது ஓர் கூத்தும்
and a dance which could not be investigated by many instruments and by many pūtams which have long practice of singing.
நன்கு உயர் வீரட்டம் சூழ்ந்து ஓடும் கெடிலப்புனலும் உடையார் ஒருவர் தமர் நாம்
we are the kindred of Civaṉ who has also the river, Keṭilam of running water, surrounding the vīrattam temple which is very great.

{$} சூழும் அரவத்துகிலும்
the garment of a cobra which surrounded the waist.
துகில்கிழிகோவணக்கீளும்
the men's loin-cloth and a strip of cloth used as a waist bank both of which are torn from a big cloth.
யாழின் மொழியவள் அஞ்ச
Umai who speak words as sweet as the music produced by yāl, to be frightened.
அருவரை போன்றவேழம் அஞ்சாது உரித்த நிலையும்
the state of flaying without fear an elephant which is like a mountain difficult to ascend.
விரிபொழில் வீரட்டம் சூழ்ந்து தாழும் கெடிலப் புனலும் உடையார் ஒருவர் தமர்நாம்
we are the kindred of Civaṉ who has also Keṭilam which has deep water surrounding vīraṭṭam, which has gardens in which flowers unfold their petals.

{$} நங்கை நடுங்க
the lady of distinction, Umai to tremble with fear.
நரம்பு எழு கைகள் பிடித்து உரங்கள் எல்லாம் கொண்டு மலையை எடுத்தான் ஒன்பதும் ஒன்றும் அலற
(pressing down) to make the ten mouths of the arakkaṉ who mustering all his strength caught hold of the mountain with the hands in which the nerves appear prominantly, and lifted it.
வரங்கள் கொடுத்து அருள் செய்வான்
who granted many boons after that (the boons are the name of Irāvaṇaṉ, long life, and a beautiful sword).
வளர் பொழில் வீரட்டம் சூழ்ந்து நிரம்பு கெடிலப்புனலும் உடையார் ஒருவர் தமர் நாம்
we are the kindred of Civaṉ who has also the river, Keṭilam, full of water which surrounds vīraṭṭam which has growing gardens.
