veḷḷi pāṭṭu:
veḷḷi is the abbreviation of Veḷḷi Ampala Vāṇa Tampirāṉ who interpolated many verses into Tēvaram and Periyapurāṇam; this was found out and printed under the name of veḷḷipāttu.

{$} விடைத்தவர் புரங்கள் மூன்றும் விரிசிலை குனியவாங்கிப் படைத்தொழில் புரிந்து நின்ற பரமனே, பரமயோகீ
the supreme being, god, the supreme yōki, who put into service the big bow to be sent to destroy the three cities of the very angry acurar.
கலி மறைக்காடு அமர்ந்தீர்
Civaṉ who desired to stay in Maṟaikkāṭu of great noise!
கடைத்தலைப் புகுந்து நின்றோம்
we stand having entered into the entrance of your temple.
அப்படித் தாளினாலே கதவுதன்னை அடைத்திடும்
close the door with the bolt in that manner.

{$} முடைத்தலைப் பலி கொள்வானே
Civaṉ who receives alms in the skull which issues an offensive odour of flesh!
முக்கணா
god who has three eyes!
நக்கமூர்த்தி
who does not have any dress! (who is naked!)
மடைத்தலைக் கமலம் ஓங்கும் வயல் மறைக்காடு அமர்ந்தாய்
you dwell in maṟaikkāṭu having fields where lotus grows luxuriantly in the small sluices.
கதவை அடைத்திடும் என்று இங்கு அடியனேன் சொல்ல
when I, your slave, requested you to close the door, here.
வல்லே கதவு அடைத்தனை
you closed the door forthwith.
எம்மை ஆள் உகக்குமாறு இது அன்றோ
is this not an act which you did to accept us as your protege?

{$} கொங்கு அணி அம் மலர்கள் மேவும் குளிர்பொழில் இமயப்பாவை பங்கு அணா உருவினானே
Civaṉ who has a body who half is approached by the beautiful daughter of Imayam which has cool gardens in which there are flowers which have honey in them.
பருமணி உமிழும் வெம்மைச் செங்கண் ஆர் அரவம் பூண்ட திகழ் மறைக்காடு அமர்ந்தாய்
God who desired to dwell in maṟaikkāṭu of eminence, and who adorned himself with cobras which have red cruel eyes from which they spit big precious stones.
அம்கணா
gracious eyes Civaṉ!
எம்மை ஆள் உய்க்கும் ஆறு இது அன்றோ
this is how you desire to admit us into your grace.

{$} இருள் உடை(ய) மிடற்றினானே
Civaṉ who has a black neck!
எழில் மறையப்பொருள்கள் எல்லாம் தேருள்பட முனிவர்க்கு ஈந்த திகழ் மறைக்காடு அமர்ந்தாய்
God who dwelt in maraikkāṭu and who explained the beautiful meaning of the vētam to the sages so that they might gain clarity.
மருள் உடை(ய) மனத்தினேனும் வந்து அடிபணிந்து நின்றேற்கு அருள்(அது) புரிவது அன்றோ
is not granting your grace to me too the one who has a confused mind and stood prostrating at your feet.
எம்மை ஆள் உகக்கும் ஆறு (ஏ)
your act of accepting us as your protege?

{$} பெருத்த கை வேழம்தன்னைப் பிளறிட உரி செய்தானே
Civaṉ who flayed an elephant of big trunk to roar.
மருத் திகழ் பொழில்கள் சூழ்ந்த மா மறைக்காடு அமர்ந்தாய்
you dwelt in the great maṟaikkāṭu surrounded by gardens in which fragrance is excellent.
கருத்து இலனேனும் நின்தன் கழல் அடி பணிந்து நின்றேன்
though I have no sincerity I bowed before your feet which wear Kaḻal.
அருத்தியை அறிவது அன்றோ
is not understanding our desire.
எம்மை ஆள் உகக்கும் ஆறு (ஏ)

{$} செப்பு அமர் கொங்கை மாதர் செறிவளை கொள்ளும் தேசோடு ஒப்பு அமர் பலிகொள்வானே
God who receives alms which can stand comparison to the beauty and who snatches the tight bangles of the ladies who have breasts like the caskets!
ஒளிமறைக்காடு அமர்ந்தாய்
you dwelt in maṟaikkāṭu of brilliance.
அப்பு அமர் சடையினானே
you have a caṭai in which there is water.
அடியனேன் பணி உகந்த அப்பனே
the father who felt joy in accepting the services of mine, being your slave.
அளவு இல்சோதீ
immesurable brilliant light!
அடிமையை உகக்கும் ஆறு (ஏ)
this is the way to accept me as your slave.

{$} மதி, துன்னும் இதழி, மத்தம், மன்னிய சென்னியானே
God on whose head a crescent, dense koṉṟai flowers, datura flowers are permanent!
கதி ஒன்றும் ஏற்றினானே
God who has a bull which has quick gait!
கலி மறைக்காடு அமர்ந்தாய்
you dwelt in maṟaikkāṭu of great noise.
விதி ஒன்றும் பாவின்மாலை கேட்டருள்
you condescend to hear the garland of verses which are composed according to rules of prosody.
வியக்கும் தன்மை இதுஅன்றோ உலகில்
this is the nature of esteeming us definitely, in this world.
நம்பி
supreme being!
எம்மை ஆள் உகக்கும் ஆறு (ஏ)
this is your act of accepting us as your protege.

{$} நீசன் ஆம் அரக்கன் திண்தோள் நெரிதர விரலால் ஊன்றும் தேசனே
the divine light which pressed its toe to crush the strong shoulders of the low arakkaṉ!
ஞானமூர்த்தி
the embodiment of divine wisdom!
திருமறைக்காடு அமர்ந்தாய்
you dwelt with desire in tirumaṟaikkāṭu.
ஆசையை அறுக்க
when you completely removed his desire.
உய்ந்திட்டு அவன் அடி பரவ (1) மெய்யே
when he saved himself and sincerely praised your feet.
ஈசனார்க்கு ஆள் (அது) ஆனான் என்பதை அறிவித்தாயே
you announced to the world that he became the slave to you, the Lord of the universe.

{$} எழில் மறைக்காடு அமர்ந்தாய்
Civaṉ residing in the beautiful Tirumaṟaikkāṭu!
மைதிகழ் உருவினானும் மலரவன்தானும் மெய்ம்மை எய்துமாறு அறியமாட்டார்
Māl who has a body like the sable cloud and Piramaṉ who is in a lotus flower are incapable of truly reaching your nature.
எனக்கு நீ இன்று அருளிய திறத்தினாலே
by the manner in which you granted me your grace.
பொய்தனை இன்றி நின்னைப் போற்றினார்க்கு அருளைச் சேரச் செய்தனை
you caused your grace to reach those who praised you without falsehood.

{$} அடிகள்
our Lord!
மண்தலத்து அமணர் பொய்யும் தேரர்கள் பொழியும் மாறக் கண்டனை
you made the false words of the amaṇar and the words of the tēvar (buddhists) change often.
என்றும் கலிமறைக்காடு அமர்ந்தாய்
you dwelt for ever with desire in maṟaikkāṭu of great noise.
தண்டியைத் தானா வைத்தான் என்னும் அத்தன்மையாலே
by the manner by which you placed taṇti equal to you.
இக்கதவு அடைப்பித்து அன்றே எண்திசைக்கு அறிய வைத்தாய்
you made me known to the people in eight directions by closing these doors.

{$} கடிபொழில் காழிவேந்தன், தகவு உடைப் புகழின் மிக்க தமிழ் கெழுவிரகன்
the chief of Kāḻi which has fragrant gardens, and the expert in knowledge of Tamiḻ who is superior to all by fitting fame.
மதம் உடைக் களிறு செற்ற மா மறைக்காட்டு உளானை
on the god who is in the great maṟaikkāṭu and who killed the elephant of must.
கதவு அடைத்திறமும் செப்பி
mentioning the fact of closing the doors.
சொன்னபதம் உடைப் பத்தும் வல்லார்
those who are able to recite all the ten verses containing choice words.
பரமனுக்கு அடியர் (தாம், ஏ)
will become devotees of Civaṉ, the supreme being.
