{$} கறையணி மாமிடற்றான்
Civaṉ has a black neck beautiful by the poison
[[கறைமிடறு அணியலும் அணிந்தன்று (puṟam, 1-5)]]
கரிகாடு அரங்கா உடையான்
has the scorched cremation ground as his stage.
பிறை அணி கொன்றையினான்
has adorned himself with koṉṟai along with the crescent.
ஒருபாகமும் பெண் அமர்ந்தான்
desired to have on one half a lady.
மறையவன் தன் தலையில் பலி கொள்பவன்
receives alms with the skull of Piramaṉ who is well-versed in the vētams.
வக்கரையில் உறைபவன்
dwells in vakkarai
எங்கள் பிரான்
is our chief.
ஒலிஆர் கழல் உள்குதுமே
we shall meditate on his feet wearing sounding Kaḻal.
{3:60}__2+
{$} காலனை முன் பாய்ந்தவன்
Civaṉ pounced upon Kālaṉ long ago.
பனைத்தோளி ஓர் பாகம் (அது) ஆ (க) ஏய்ந்தவன்
was united with a lady who has shoulders like bamboo on one half.
(1) எண் இறந்து அவ் இமையோர்கள் தொழுது இறைஞ்ச வாய்ந்தவன்
who is fit to be paid homage with joined by those celestials who do not wink and who are countless.
முப்புரங்கள் எரி செய்தவன்
who burnt the three cities.
வக்கரையில் தேய்ந்த இள வெண்பிறை சேர் சடையான் அடி செப்புதுமே
we shall praise the feet of Civaṉ in vakkarai in whom the young white crescent took refuge having diminished in size by takkaṉ's curse.

{$} சந்திரசேகரனே! அருளாய் என்று தண்விசும்பில் இந்திரனும் முதலா இமையோர்கள் தொழுது இறைஞ்ச
the celestials beginning from intiraṉ who dwell in the cool heaven to worship with joined hands and fail prostrate at his feet, by saying Lord who wears a crescent on your head! bestow your grace on us (சந்திரசேகரன் is the name of Civaṉ in this shrine).
அந்தர மூ எயிலும் அனலாய் விழ ஓர் அம்பினால் மந்தர மேரு வில்லா வளைத்தான் இடம் வக்கரையே
vakkarai is the place of Civaṉ who bent the mountain, mantaram which is also called meru as bows at different ages and discharged an arrow, the fire to engulf and the three cities which were wandering in the sky

{$} நெய் அணி சூலமொடு நிறை வெண் மழுவும் (ம்) அரவும் கை அணி கொள்கையினான்
Civaṉ has the intention of having as ornaments in the had a strong and white battle-axe, a cobra along with a trident on which fat is smeared.
கனல் மேவிய ஆடலினான்
dances in the fire desiring it.
மெய் மேல் அணி வெண்பொடியான்
smears on his body white sacred ash.
விரிகோவண ஆடையின்மேல்
in addition to the broad mens' loin cloth.
மை அணி மாமிடற்றான்
has a black neck in which blackness adds beauty

உறையும் இடம் வக்கரையே
vakkarai is his dwelling place.

{$} ஏன வெண்கொம்பினொடும் (ம்) இள ஆமையும் பூண்டு உகந்து
being pleased with adorning himself with the white hog's tusk and the shell of a young tortoise.
கூன் இள வெண்பிறையும் குளிர் மத்தமும் சூடி
wearing a young, curved and white crescent and cool datura flowers.
நல்ல மான் ஆன மென் விழியாளொடும் வக்கரைமேவியவன்
Civaṉ who dwells in vakkarai along with a good natured lady who has gentle looks like the deer.
தானவர் முப்புரங்கள் எரிசெய்த தலைமகனே
is the Lord who burnt the three cities of the tāṉavār (acurar)

{$} (1) நீர் மலியும் சடைமேல்
on the catai where there is abundant water
தார் மலி கொன்றையொடும் கதிர் மத்தமும் வாள் அரவும் நிரம்பா மதி (உம்) சூடி
wearing a crescent and bright datura flowers, a shining cobra along with koṉṟai which blossoms profusely in winter.
நல்ல வார்மலி மென் முலையாளொடும் வக்கரை மேவியவன்
Civaṉ who dwells in vakkarai with a good natured lady who wears on her soft breasts a bodice.
பார்மலி வெண்தலையில் பலிகொண்டு உழல் பான்மையனே
has the nature of wandering to receive alms in a pure white skull, in this world.

{$} கான் அணவும் மான்மறி ஒருகையது
Civaṉ has in one hand a young deer which lives in the forest (கான் அணவும்
is a generic epithet)
ஓர்கை மழுவாள்
in the other hand he holds a battle-axe.
தேன் அணவும் குழலாள் உமைசேர் திருமேனியினான்
has a holy body in which Umai who has tresses of hair on which tēṉ (a variety of bee) stays.
வான் அணவும் பொழில் சூழ் திருவக்கரை மேவியவன்
Civaṉ dwells with desire in tiruvakkarai surrounded by gardens which touch the sky.
ஊன் அணவும் தலையில் பலிகொண்டு உழல் உத்தமனே
is the supreme god possessed of all moral attributes who wanders receiving alms in a skull in which flesh is sticking.

{$} இலங்கையர் மன்னன் ஆகி
being the King of the inhabitants of ilaṅkai.
எழில் பெற்ற இராவணனைக் கலங்க ஓர்கால் விரலால் கதிர்பொன் முடிபத்து அலற
all the ten crowns which emit ray of the beautiful Irāvaṇaṉ to become confused in mind to make a great noise by fixing a single toe.
நலம் கெழு சிந்தையனாய்
becoming afterwards with good intention.
அருள் பெற்றலும்
when he deserved the grace
நன்கு அளித்த வலம்கெழு மூவிலைவேல் உடையான் இடம் வக்கரையே
vakkarai is the place of Civaṉ who has a victorious trident of three blades and who bestowed on him boons.

{$} காமனை ஈடு அழித்திட்டு
when Civaṉ destroyed the power of Kāmaṉ (cupid)
அவன் காதலி சென்று இரப்ப
when his dear wife went and entreated Civaṉ.
சேமமே உன்தனக்கு என்று அருள் செய்தவன்
granted his grace saying he will safe so far as you are concerned.
தேவர் பிரான்
the master of the celestials.
சாம வெண்டாமரைமேல் அயனும் தரணி அன்று அளந்த வாமனனும்
Ayaṉ who is seated on a white lotus which has green outer-petals and the dwarf who measured the world in the distant past.
அறியா வகையான் இடம் வக்கரையே
vakkarai is the place of Civaṉ whose nature both could not know.

buddhists who cover with a robe called Civaram.
முதிர் பிண்டியர்
amaṇar who consider the piṇṭi (aśoka) tree which is fully grown as sacred.
என்று இவர்கள்
these two people
தேடிய தேவர் தம்மால் இறைஞ்சப்படும் தேவர் பிரான்
the chief of the celestials who is paid homage by the gods who are very much sought after by those two people.
பாடிய நான்மறையன்
Civaṉ who chanted the four vetams;
[[cf.நன்று ஆய்ந்த நீள் நிமிர்சடை முது முதல்வன் வாய் போகாது ஒன்று புரிந்த ஈரிரண்டின் ஆறு உயர்ந்த ஒரு முதுநூல் (puṟam, 166-)]]
பலிக்கு என்று பல்வீதிதொறும் வாடிய வெண்தலை கொண்டு உழல்வான் இடம் வக்கரையே
vakkarai is the place of Civaṉ who wanders holding a dried-up white skull in every one of the many streets to receive alms.

{$} தண்புனலும் அரவும் சடைமேல் உடையான்
Civaṉ has on his caṭai cool water and a cobra.
பிறை தோய் வண்பொழில் சூழ்ந்து
surrounded by luxuriant gardens with which the moon seem to come into contact.
அழகு ஆர் இறைவன் உறை வக்கரையை
about vakkarai which is full of beauty and where Civaṉ dwells.
சண்பையார் தம்தலைவன் தமிழ் ஞானசம்பந்தன் சொன்ன பண்புனை பாடல் வல்லார் அவர்தம் வினை பற்று அறுமே
the acts of those who are capable to reciting the songs which are set to music and composed by ñāṉacampantaṉ of having knowledge of tamiḻ and the chief of the residents of campai, will have complete severance of connection with them.
