as the smoke of the burning Koṅkaṇi resin to increase every where

கந்தம் நின்று உலவும் கழிப்பாலையார்
the Lord in Kaḻippālai where the fragrance is permanent and moving.
அவர்மேவிய சாந்தம் அந்தமும் அளவும் அறியாதது ஓர்சாந்தம்
the state of his composure desired by him is of such a nature that his end and measure cannot be known by anybody

{$} வான் இலங்க விளங்கும் இளம்பிறை அலங்கல் உகந்த தலைவனார்
The chief who rejoiced to wear the young crescent which shines to add lustre to the sky, as a garland

மான் நலம் மடநோக்குடையாளொடு
with a lady of artless looks like those of the beautiful looks of the deer.
கான் இலங் கவரும் கழிப் பாலையார்
He is in Kaḻippālai where fragrance is spreading profusely.

He has a bull in his banner.
கூற்றை உதைத்தனர்
He kicked the god of death.
பொடிகொள் மார்பினில் பூண்டது ஓர் ஆமையர்
He has as an ornament the shell of a tortoise in his chest smeared with ashes.
கடிகொள் பூம்பொழில் சூழ் கழிப்பாலையுள் அடிகள் செய்வன
the actions of the Lord in Kaḻippālai, surrounded by fragment gardens.
ஆர்க்கு அறிவு ஒண்ணுமே
who can understand properly (those actions)

{$} பண் நலம்பட வண்டு அறை கொன்றையின் தண் அலங்கல் உகந்த தலைவனார்
the master who felt happy in having a garland of koṉṟai on which bees him to produce the sweetness of melody.
நலம் கண்கவரும் கழிப்பாலையுள் அண்ணல்
the chief who is in Kalippālai which captivates the eyes by its fertility.
எம்கடவுள் அவன் அல்லனே
is he not our god?

{$} ஏரின் ஆர் உலகத்து இமையோரொடும் பாரினார் உடனே பரவப்படும் (சீரினார்)
one whose fame is praised by the people of this world as well as the tēvar of the other world which is superior by its beauty.
காரினார் பொழில் சூழ் கழிப்பாலையுள் எம் சீரினார்
one who is famous and resides in Kaḻippālai surrounded by gardens on which clouds settle.
கழலே சிந்தை செய்மின்
you think about his feet only.

{$} துள்ளு மான்மறியங்கையில் ஏந்தி
Holding in his palm a young one of a deer which is jumping
[[ஏந்தி: can be interpreted as an adverbial participle or as a noun]]
வெண்தலையில் ஊர் இடுபலிகொள்வனார்
He receives in a white skull the alms given by the people of the village.
கள்வனார் உறையும் கழிப்பாலையை உள்ளுவார் வினையாயின ஓயுமே
all the sins of those who meditate upon Kaḻippālai where the thief resides, will come to an end (will diminish)

You praise (God)
மண்ணினார் மலிசெல்வமும்
pondering over all the abundant wealth of this world and
வானமும் எண்ணி நின்று
the wealth of the celestial world
[[Both cannot give everlasting happiness, that is their defect]]
பாகமும் பெண்ணினார்
He has on one half a lady.
நெற்றியொடுஉற்ற முக்கண்ணினார் உறையும் கழிப்பாலையே(ஏத்துமின்)
(you praise) Koḻippālai where the god who has the third eye in his forehead, resides.

{$} இலங்கை மன்னனை ஈரைந்து இரட்டி தோள் துலங்க ஊன்றியதூமழுவாளினார்
one who has a pure weapon of maḻu and pressed his leg to make the twenty shoulders of the King of Ilaṅkai to quiver
[[வாள்: is used in the sense of weapon; not sword]]
கலங்கள் வந்து உலவும் கழிப்பாலையை வலங்கொள் வார்வினையாயின மாயுமே
the sins of people who go round Kaḻippālai where ships come and move, will perish
[[From the description in the 3rd line we learn that Kaḻippālai was a sea port]]

{$} ஆட்சியால் அறியானொடு மாலுமாய்த் தாட்சியால் அறியாது தளர்ந்தனர்
one seatedd in the flower and Māl, who, on account of their pride that they were creator and protector, became enfeebled as they could not know the Lord as even those powers were not their own.
காட்சியால் அறியான்
He could not be realised by worldly knowledge and knowledge of the soul.
கழிப்பாலையை மாட்சியார் தொழுவார் வினைமாயும்
The sins of those who worship Kaḻippālai having lost their eye, will perish.

{$} செய்ய நுண்துவர் ஆடையினாரொடு மெய்யில் மாசு பிறக்கிய வீறு இலாக்கையர் கேண்மை எ னோ
why should we have friendship with the deceivers who have no distinctive excellence and who have enormous dust on their body and those who don robes seaked in red ochre?
[[The first refers to Buddhists, the second to jains]]
கழிப்பாலை எம் ஐயன் சேவடியே அடைந்து உய்ம்மின்
save yourselves by reaching the red feet only of our Lord in Kaḻippālai.

{$} பாய்புனல் சூழ் கழிப்பாலையை
About Kaḻippālai which is surrounded by flowing water.
அந்தண் காழி அருமறை ஞானசம்பந்தன் சிந்தையால் சொன்ன செந்தமிழ் வல்லவர்
those are capable of reciting the verse of chaste Tamiḻ, sung by ñāṉacampantaṉ who know the difficult maṟai and had focussed his mind upon god, and who was a native of beautiful and cool Kāḻi.
[[The name Ñāṉa Campantaṉ has been split into ஞானசம், பந்தன் for metre; this is what is called in prosody வகையுளி, scansion in disregard of speech-rhythm]]
