Devotees who desire the grace of Civaṉ!
அறியாமையில் வினவினேன்
I questioned you as I do not know the reason.
உரைசெய்ம்மின் நீர்
you reply to me.
கனைவில் ஆர் புனல் காவிரிக்கரைமேய கண்டியூர் வீரட்டன்
Civaṉ who is Kaṇṭiyūr Vīraṭṭam on the bank of the Kaviri of rushing water.
தமர் ஆயினார் அண்டம் ஆள
when his devotees are ruling over the heaven.
தனம் முனே தனக்கு இன்மையோ
is it due to the fact that he has no ancestral property.
தான் வனனில் வாழ்க்கை கொண்டு ஆடிப்பாடி இவ்வையம் மாப்பலிதேர்ந்தது
living in the forest singing and dancing begged a large quantity of alms in this world?

{$} உயர்வு ஆய மாதவம் பேணுவீர்
Devotees who desire superior and severe penance!
உள்ளவாறு எனக்கு உரை செய்மின்
please tell me the actual fact.
கள் அவிழ் பொழில் சூழும் கண்டியூர் வீரட்டத்து உறை காதலான்
Civaṉ who dwells with love in Kaṇṭiyūr vīraṭṭan surrounded by gardens which drip honey.
என்கொலோ
what is the reason for
பிள்ளை வான் பிறை செஞ்சடை மிசை வைத்ததும்
placing the great crescent on the red caṭai.
பெருநீர் ஒலி வெள்ளம் தாங்கியது (உம்)
and bearing the flood of great noise.
மிகு மங்கையாள் உடன் ஆகவே
when the lady who has no equal and superior to her in beauty is always with him?

those who are Devotees!
அரன் செய்கையை அறிகின்றிலேன்
I am unable to understand the acitons of araṉ (Civaṉ)
படி எலாம் தொழுது ஏத்து கண்டியூர் வீரட்டத்து உறை பான்மையான்
Civaṉ who has the nature of dwelling in Kaṇṭiyūr viraṭṭam worshipped and praised by the whole world.
சொல்லுமின்
please tell me.
முடிவும் ஆய் முதலும் ஆய் இவ்வையகம் முழுதுமாய்
Being the end and beginning and being himself the whole world.
அழகு ஆயது ஓர்பொடி (அது) ஆர் திருமார்பினில் புரிநூலும் பூண்டு எழு பொற்பதே
the beauty of adorning himself with a sacred thread of three strands in his holy chest which is thickly smeared with the beautiful holy ash.

{$} பழைய தொண்டர்கள்
old and senior devotees!
கழை உலாம் புனல் மல்கு காவிரி மன்னு கண்டியூர் வீரட்டன் குழை ஓர்காதினில் பெய்து உகந்து
Civaṉ in Kaṇṭiyūr vīraṭṭam where the Kāviri flows, the water of which is not fathomable to the batman's pole, was pleased to wear a men's ear-ring in one ear.
ஒரு குன்றின் மங்கை வெருவுறப்புழை நெடுங்கை நல்மா உரித்தது போர்/த்து உகந்த பொலிவதே பல ஆயவேதியன் பான்மையைப் பகருமின்
please tell me the nature of the vētiyaṉ who is pervading all things; that nature is as follows; looking brilliant by covering himself joyfully with the skin of an elephant having long and good trunk with holes, which he flayed.

{$} அடிவிரும்பி ஆட்செய்வீர்
Devotees who do humble service desiring the feet of Civaṉ!
விரவு இலாது உமைக் கேட்கின்றேன்
I question you as I am not in the midst of devotees.
கரை எலாம் திரை மண்டு காவிரிக் கண்டியூர் உறை வீரட்டன்
Civaṉ who dwells in Keṇṭiyūr vīraṭṭam on the bank of the Kāviri which overflows, by its waves on the banks.
முரவம் மொந்தை முழா ஒலிக்க
when the muravam, montai and muyavu are being played.
முழங்கு பேயொடும் கூடிப்போய்
having mixed with the roaring pēys and gone with them.
பரவு வானவர்க்காக வார்கடல் நஞ்சம் உண்ட பரிசு (அதே)
the nature of consuming the poison of the extensive ocean, to save the celestials who praised him.

please tell me as far as possible Civaṉ being the chief of all the worlds and the living beings and pervading them

கயல் நெடுங்கண்ணினார்கள் தாம் பொலி கண்டியூர் உறை வீரட்டன்
Civaṉ who dwells in Keṇṭiyūr vīraṭṭam where ladies whose long eyes are like the fish carp, are beautiful.
புயல் பொழிந்து இழிவான் உளோர்களுக்காக அன்று அயலா பொய்ச்சிரம் அயல் நக(வ்) அரிந்து அதில் ஊண் உகந்த அருத்தியே (இயம்புமின்)
please tell me the wish for in desiring food in the skull of Ayaṉ having holes, cutting it off to make others to laugh at him, for the sake of the celestials in heaven from which clouds rain descending to the earth.

செல்வன் த(ன்)னது திறம் எலாம்
all about the nature of god.
கருத்தடங் கண்ணினார்கள் தாம் தொழும் கண்டியூர் உறை வீரட்டன்
Civaṉ who dwells in Kaṇṭiyūr vīraṭṭam which is worshipped by ladies having black and big eyes.
ஆல் நிழல் இருந்து நால்வரொடு அறம் உரைத்ததும்
expounding religious duties to four sages sitting under the shade of the banyan tree.
மிகு வெம்மையார் வருந்த வன்சிலையால் அம்மாமதில் மூன்றும் மாட்டிய வண்ணமே செப்புமின்
please tell me the manner of causing destruction to those great forts, by a strong bow to make the exceedingly cruel arakkar, suffar.

Devotees who desirs the many old fames of Civaṉ by explaining them at length by your words!

காவிரித்தடம் புனல்செய் கண்டியூர் வீரட்டத்து உறை கண்ணுதல்
Civaṉ with the frontal eye who dwells in Koṇtiyūr vīraṭṭam which has plenty of water which fills tanks.
கோ விரிப்பயன் ஆன் அஞ்சு ஆடிய கொள்கையும்
the idea behind bathing in the five products got from the cow.
[[ஆன் அஞ்சு: simply means five as it is preceded by the word கோ which means cow.]]
கொடிவரைபெற மாவரைக் கலத்தால் அரக்கனை வலியை வாட்டிய மாண்பு (அதே)
his and his greatness in decreasing the strength of the arakkaṉ by the big mountain, for the mountain, for the mountain to get a banner of victory.

People who like having as support the greatness of Civaṉ!

கருமை ஆர் பொழில் சூழும் தண் வயல் கண்டியூர் உறை வீரட்டன்
Civaṉ who dwells, in Kaṇṭyūr vīraṭṭam which has cool fields surrounded by gardens which are very dark.
ஒருமையால் உயர் மாலும் மற்றை மலரவன் (உம்) உணர்ந்து ஏத்தவே
when Māl who is great by single minded devotion and Piramaṉ in the lotus flower, praised (Civaṉ).
அருமையால் அவருக்கு உயர்ந்து எரி ஆகி நின்ற அத்தன்மையே
that nature of standing by assuming the form of a column of fire and being superior to them by being difficult to know him.

{$} நமர் எழு பிறப்பு அறுக்கும் மாந்தர்காள்
people who cut at the root of the seven births of our relations!
உமைக் கேட்கின்றேன்
I ask you.
கமர் அழிவயல் சூழும் தண்புனல் கண்டியூர் உறைவீரட்டன்
Civaṉ who dwells in Kaṇṭiyūr vīraṭṭam which has cool water surrounded by fields in which the clefts in the ground caused by drought, have been closed.
தமர் அழிந்து எழு சாக்கியச் சமன் ஆதர் ஓதும் அது கொளாது
without minding what the cakkiyar and amaṇar who are ignorant, preach, without their own religionless deriving any benefit.
அமரர் ஆனவர் ஏத்த அந்தகன் தன்னைச் சூலத்தில் ஆய்ந்ததே
whether piercing Antakaṉ with the trident, to be praised by the immortals was a good act.

about Civaṉ who is in the minds of all people;

பொழில் சூழும் கண்டியூர் வீரட்டத்து உறை கள்வனை
and the thief who dwells in Kaṇṭiyūr Vīraṭṭam surrounded by gardens.
அருத்தனை
and who is the wealth of devotees.
அடியர் பால் மிகக் கேட்டு உகந்த வினாவுரை
the words in the form of questions which was eagerly put to devotees.
திருத்தம் ஆம் திகழ் காழி ஞானசம்பந்தன் செப்பிய செந்தமிழ்
the verses of refined Tamiḻ which were composed by the eminent Ñāṉacampantaṉ of Kāḻi which has many holy tanks.
ஒருத்தர் ஆகிலும் பலர்கள் ஆகிலும் உரை செய்வார் உயர்ந்தார்களே
it is definite that those who recite these whether they be individuals or groups, are really great people.
[[பலர்கள்: கள் is a superfluous plural suffix.]]
