{$} உருவின் ஆர் உமையொடும் ஒன்றி நின்றது ஓர் திருவினான்
Civaṉ has the brilliance of being united with Umai who is full of beauty.
வளர் சடைத் திங்கள் கங்கையான்
has on his growing caṭai a crescent and the river, Kañkai.
வெருவி வானவர் தொழ வெகுண்டு நோக்கிய செருவினான் (1) உறைவிடம் திருவிற்கோலமே
Tiruviṟkōlam is the dwelling place of Civaṉ who gazed in the battle with anger when the celestials worshipped him being afraid (of the acurar in the three cities)

{$} சிற்றிடை உமை ஒரு பங்கன்
Civaṉ has Umai of small waist on one half.
அங்கையில் உற்றது ஓர் எரியினன்
has on the palm a fire.
ஒரு சரத்தினால் வெற்றிகொள் அவுணர்கள் புரங்கள் வெந்து அறச் செற்றவன் உறைவிடம் திருவிற்கோலமே
tiruviṟkōlam is the dwelling-place of Civaṉ who destroyed completely by burning the cities of the avuṇar who had been formerly victorious, by a single arrow.

Civaṉ is the chief.
நல் அதிசயன்
has great wonders.
அயன் விண்ணோர் தொழும் மை அணி கண்டனார் 1. வண்ணம் வண்ணவான்
the colour of the god who is beautified in the neck by the poison and who is worshipped by the celestials led by Ayaṉ; is the colour of the evening sky.
பை அரவு அல்குலாள் 2. பாகம் ஆகவும் செய்யவன் உறைவிடம் திருவிற்கோலமே
tiruviṟkōlam is the dwelling place of Civaṉ who is red in colour though Umai who has a waist like the hood of the cobra, is on one half. (The blue colour of Umai has not diminished the red colour of Civaṉ)

{$} முனிக்கு முன் அறம் விதைத்தவன்
Civaṉ impressed in the minds of the sages, long ago, moral teachings.
முன் காலனை உதைத்து அவன் உயிர் இழந்து உருண்டு வீழ்தரப் புதைத்தவன்
who diminished the strength of Kīlaṉ by kicking him long ago to make him fall rolling on the ground losing his life.
புரங்கள் முன்றையும் சிதைத்தவன் உறைவிடம் திருவிற்கோலமே
tiriṟkōkam is the dwelling place of the Lord who destroyed all the long cities which were known by the names of puram.

{$} முந்தினான்
Civaṉ is the primordial god.
மூவருள் முதல்வன் ஆயினான்
is the chief among Ayaṉ, ari and Uruttiraṉ, the trinity.
1. கொந்து உலாம் மலர்ப்பொழில் கூகம் மேவினான்
desires to dwell in kūkam which has gardens in which the breeze moves in the bunches of flowers. ((கூகம் Kūkam; this is now known as Kūvam)
அந்திவான் பிறையினான்
wears a crescent that rises in the evening.
அடியார் மேல் வினை சிந்துவான் உறைவிடம் திருவிற்கோலமே
-tiruviṟkōlam is the dwelling place of Civaṉ who destroys all the acts which are attached to devotees.

{$} தொகுத்தவன் அருமறை அங்கம்
Civaṉ codified the abstruse vētams which were spread out as many and the six aṅkams.
ஆகமம் வகுத்தவன்
classified the ākamams.
வளர் பொழில் கூகம் மேவினான்
desired Kūkam which has growing gardens.
மிகுத்தவன்
has no equals and superiors.
மிகுத்தவர் புரங்கள் வெந்து அறச் செகுத்தவன்
destroyed completely the cities of the proud acurar, to be burnt by fire.
உறைவிடம் திருவிற்கோலமே
his dwelling place is tiruviṟkōlam.

{$} அருமறை விரித்தவன்
Civaṉ gave out in detail the meanings of the vētams.
விரிசடை வெள்ளம் தரித்தவன்
bore the flood on the loosened caṭai.
தரியலர் புரங்கள் ஆசு அற எரித்தவன்
burnt the cities of the enemies entirely without any trace of them remaining.
இலங்கையர் கோன் இடர்படச் சிரித்தவன் உறைவிடம் திருவிற்கோலமே
tiruviṟkōlam is the dwelling place of Civaṉ who laughed when the King of ilankai underwent suffering. (To make him roar was sport for Civaṉ)

{$} திரிதருபுரம் எரிசெய்த சேவகன்
Civaṉ, the warrior, who burnt the cities wandering in the sky.
விரி அரவொடு மதி சடையில் வைத்தவன்
placed the crescent along with a cobra with lines.
அரியொடு பிரமனது ஆற்றலால் உருத்தெரியலன் உறை விடம் திருவிற்கோலமே
tiruviṟkōlam is the dwelling place of Civaṉ whose form Piramaṉ along with Māl, could not know, by their own efforts.

{$} சீர்மை இல் சமணொடு சீவரக்கையர் நீர்மையில் உரைகள் கொள்ளாத நேசர்க்கு
to those loving devotees who do not accept as truth the words which have no inherent goodness, of the camaṇar who have no excellence and the buddhists who are despicable people wearing a robe called cīvaram!
பார்மலி பெருஞ்செல்வம் பரிந்து நல்கிடும் சீர்மையினான் இடம் திருவிற்கோலமே
tiruviṟkōlam is the place of the famous Civaṉ who grants with affection great wealth which is abundant in this world.

{$} கோடல் வெண்பிறையானை
Civaṉ who wears a curved white crescent

கூகம் மேவிய சேடன செழுமதில் திருவிற்கோலத்தை
about tiruviṟkōlam which has strong walls of fortifications of the god who desired Kūkam.
1. நாடவல்ல தமிழ் ஞானசம்பந்தன் பாடவல்லார்களுக்கு இல்லையாம் பாவமே
there will be no sins attaching to those who can sing the verses of ñaṉacampantaṉ whose knowledge of tamiḻ is fit for research.
[[Note. In every verse of this decade the destruction of the three cities is mentioned this is the shrine where Civaṉ remains holding bow which destroyed the cities in his hand so this shrine got the name of tiruviṟkōlam.]]
