{$} மின் அன எயிறு உடை விரவலோர்கள் தம், துன்னிய புரம்
the three cities of the enemies who had teeth shining like lightning, which were close to each other
சுளிந்த தொன்மையர்
the primordial god who destroyed them by getting angry.
புன்னை அம் பொழில் அணி பூந்தராய் நகர், அன்னம் அன்ன (ந்) நடை அரிவை பங்கரே
is the one who has as his half a lady having a gait resembling that of the swan, in the city of Pūntarāy which is beautiful by parks of mast wood trees.
[[அரிவை -- here does not denote stage in the life of a woman, but simply means a woman; it generally denotes a woman between the ages of 20 and 25]]

{$} மூது அணி முப்புரத்து எண்ணிலோர்களை, வேது அணி சரத்தினால் வீட்டினார் அவர்
the god who destroyed countless acurar in the three cities of old decorations, with a hot arrow
[[It is mentioned that the god of fire was at the tip of the arrow;
குன்றவார்சிலை, நாண் அரா, அரிவாளி, கூர்எரி காற்றின் மும்மதில் வென்றவாறு எங்ஙனே (Cuntarar, Tiruvāmāttūr, 1);
திரிபுரம் எரியத் தேவர் வேண்ட, எரிமுகப் பேரம்பு ஏவல் கேட்ப (Cilappatikāram, 6-40-41)]]
போது அணி பொழில் அமர் பூந்தராய் நகர்த், தாது அணி குழல் உமை தலைவர் (காண்மின்)
is the husband of Umai who has tresses of hair adorned with pollen, and resides in the city of Pūntarāy where there are parks made beautiful by flowers

god who had the nature of holding a bow to increase the prosperity of the Tēvar, and the proud inhabitants of the three cities to meet with destruction
[[பெருக்கிய is used as an adverbial participle (செய்யிய என்னும் வாய்பாடு)]]
பொரு(க்) கடல் புடைதரு பூந்தராய் நகர்க், கருக்கிய குழல் உமை கணவர் (காண்மினே)
is the husband of Umai who has black tresses of hair and resides in the city of Pūntarāy which has on its side the sea which dashes against the shore
[[பொருகடல் has become பொருக்கடல் and கருகிய has become கருக்கிய to suit the rhyme]]

Having the serpent and the mountain as bowstring and bow respectively.
மாகம் ஆர் புரங்களை மறித்த மாண்பினர்
the great god who prevented the three cities to fly as they wished in the sky, and destroyed them
பூகம் ஆர் பொழில் அணி பூந்தராய் நகர்ப், பாகு அமர்மொழி உமை பங்கர் (காண்மின்)
is the one who has Umai who speaks words as sweet as syrup of sugar, residing in the city of Pūntarāy which is adorned by parks of areca-palms

{$} (1) வெள்ளெயிறு உடைய அவ்விரலார்கள் ஊர், ஒள்ளெரி ஊட்டிய ஒருவனார்
the god without an equal who set bright fire to the cities of those enemies who had white teeth
[[the whiteness of the teeth appear prominent in contrast to the black bodies of the acurar; that is why this epithet has been given to them]]
ஒளிர் புள் அணி புறவினில் பூந்தராய் நகர்க், கள் அணிகுழல் உமைகணவர் (காண்மின்)
is the husband of Umai who has tresses with honey, residing in the city of Pūntarāy which has jungle made beautiful by birds.

{$} துங்கு இயல் தானவர் தோற்றம் மா நகர், அங்கியில் வீழ்தர ஆய்ந்த அம்பினர்
He who chose an arrow with which he made the grand and big cities of the tāṉavar who had formerly had the honour of being the devotees of Civaṉ,
[[In puranams it is said that the acurar of the three cities who were staunch devotees of Civaṉ were later made to hate Civaṉ and become his enemies by the guiles of Nāratar]]
[[துங்கு-துங்கம்: this epithet has been given, thinking of their former greatness and Campantar's compassion for such people to meet with complete destruction from the same god who had granted them many boons]]
பொங்கிய கடல் அணி பூந்தராய் நகர், அம்கயல் அ(ன்)ன க(ண்)ணி அரிவை பங்கரே
is the god who has as his half a lady who has eyes as beautiful as the carp fish, residing in the city of Pūntarāy which is made beautiful by the foaming and raging sea.

{$} அண்டர்கள் உய்ந்திட அவுணர் மாய்தரக், கண்டவர்
the god who saw to it to save the tēvar and to destroy the acurar
கடல்விடம் உண்ட கண்டனார்
Who drank the poison that rose from the sea and stationed it in his neck.
புண்டரீக(வ்) வயல் பூந்தராய்நகர், வண்டு அமர் குழலி தன் மணாளர் (காண்மின்)
is the husband of the lady who has tresses of hair on which bees settle, residing in the city of Pūntarāy which has fields where lotus is growing (as weeds)

{$} மாசின அரக்கனை வரையின் வாட்டிய கண்டனார்
the warrior who made the arakkaṉ of great sins to suffer, under the mountain (Kailācam)
காய்சின எயில்களைக் கறுத்த கண்டனார்
the warrior who destroys the fortress of burning anger.
பூசுரர் பொலிதரு பூந்தராய் நகர்க், காசைசெய் குழல் உமை கனவர் (காண்மின்)
is the husband of Umai who has tresses of hair resembling flowers of iron-wood tree, residing in the city of Pūntarāy where brahmins are properous.

the one who is different from the world and who made the cities of the acurar which were as important as the face, to be engulfed by fire.
கண்ணனும்பூமகன் (உம்) அறிகிலாப் பூந்தராய் நகர்க் கோமகள் எழில்பெறும் அரிவை கூறரே
is the Lord who has as one portion a beautiful lady and the ruler of the city of Pūntarāy, who could not be found by Kaṇṇaṉ (Māl) and Piramaṉ seated on a (lotus) flower

{$} முத்தர அசுரர்கள் மொய்த்த முப்புரம், அத்தகும் அழலிடை வீட்டினார்
the god destroyed the three cities which was crowded round by the three classes of acurar, to be engulfed by that great fire.
அமண், புத்தரும் அறிவு ஒணாப் பூந்தராய் நகர்க், கொத்து அணிகுழல் உமை கூறர் (காண்மின்)
is the god who has as his half Umai who adorns on her tresses of hair bunches of flowers, resides in the city of Pūntarāy and who could not be comprehended by the amaṇar and puttar (buddhist)

பரவிய பந்தன் மெய்ப் பாடல் வல்லவர்
those capable of reciting the truthful verses composed by Pantaṉ praising the god.
சிரம்மலி சிவகதி சேர்தல் திண்ணமே
it is very definite that they will attain salvation which is as eminent as the head is to the body
