{$} புல்கு பொன் நிறம் புரிசடை நெடுமுடிப் போழ் இளமதிசூடி
wearing a young crescent in the twisted caṭai coiled into a tall crown, which is golden in colour.
பில்கு தேன் உடை நறு மலர்க் கொன்றையும் பிணையல் செய்தவர் மேய, மல்கு தண்துறை அரிசிலின் வடகரை வருபுனல் மாகாளம், அல்லும் நன்பகலும் தொழும் அடியவர்க்கு
near those devotees who worship night and day mākāḷam which has freshes and situated on the north bank of the aricil where in the ghat people crowd, and where Civaṉ who wears a garland of fragrant koṉṟai flowers from which honey is dripping.
அருவினை அடையாவே
irresistible Karmams will not reach them.

{$} அரவம் ஆட்டுவர்
Civaṉ causes the cobra to dance spreadign its hood.
அம்துகில் புலி அதள்
his beautiful cloth in tiger`s skin.
அங்கையில் அனல் ஏந்தி இரவும் ஆடுவர்
will dance at night holding a fire in his palm.
இவை இவர் சரிதைகள்
these are his conducts.
இசைவன பல பூதம்
many pūtams sing (when he dances)
மரவம் தோய்பொழில் அரிசிலின் வடகரை வருபுனல் மாகாளம் பரவியும் பணிந்து ஏத்த வல்லார் அவர்
those who are able to pay obeisance to, and praise in the third and second persons, mākālan which has freshes and which is on the north bank of the aricil having gardens of common cadamba trees.
பயன் தலைப்படுவார்
will obtain benefits.

{$} குணங்கள் கூறியும்
enumerating his good qualities.
குற்றங்கள் பரவியும்
praising the faults in the second person
குரைகழல் அடிசேரக் கணங்கள் பாடவும்
the groups of pūtams to sing his praises coming near his feet which wear sounding Kaḻal
கண்டவர் பரவவும்
those who see him to praise him addressing him in the second person.
கருத்து அறிந்தவர்மேய
Civaṉ who knows their individual ideas, dwells.
மணம் கொள் பூம் பொழில் அரிசிலின் வடகரை வருபுனல் மாகாளம் வணங்கும் உள்ளமோடு அணையவல்லார்களை வல்வினை அடையாவே
the irresistible Karmams will not approach those who come near with a mind to make obeisance to mākāḷam which has floods and is situated on the north bank of the aricil and has flower gardens of fragrance.

{$} எங்கும் ஏதும் ஓர் பிணிஇலர்
Civaṉ has no disease anywhere and even a little.
கேடு இலர்
knows no death
இழை வளர் நறுங்கொன்றை தங்கு தொங்கலும் தாமமும் கண்ணியும் தாம் மகிழ்ந்தவர்
rejoiced in wearing as ornaments garland of koṉṟai which hang on the chest, chaplets worn on the shoulders and chaplets worn on the head.
மேய மங்குல் தோய் பொழில் அரிசிலின் வடகரைவருபுனல் மாகாளம், கங்குலும், பகலும் தொழும் அடியாவர் காதன்மை உடையார்
the devotees who worship mākāḷam on the north bank of the aricil which brings freshes and which has gardens on which clouds settle and in which Civaṉ dwells, night and day, are really people who have love towards him.

{$} மதியம் தோய் பொழில் அரிசிலின் வடகரை வருபுனல் மாகாளம் புதிய பூ வொடு சாந்தமும் புகையும் கொண்டு ஏத்துதல் புரிந்தார்க்கே
to those who praised Civaṉ with fresh flowers, sandal paste and incense in mākāḷam on the north bank of the aricil which bring freshes and has gardens touching the moon.
கருதிய பொருள் கூடில்
as their wishes are realised.
நெதியம் என் உள
what is wealth other than this!
போகம் மற்று என் உள
what are pleasures other than this?
நில மிசை நலம் ஆய கதியம் என் உள
what else is the way to salvation, in this earth? (கதியம்: அம் has no separate meaning)
வானவர் என் உளர்
what use are the celestials?

{$} கண் உலாவிய கதிர் ஒளி முடிமிசைக் கனல் விடு சுடர் நாகம் தெண்ணிலா வொடு திலதமும் நகுதலை திகழ வைத்தவர் மேய மண் உலாம் பொழில் அரிசிலின் வடகரை வருபுனல் மாகாளம்
mākāḷam on the north bank of the aricil which brings freshes and has gardens famous throughout the world and where Civaṉ who placed prominently a small ciruclar mark on the forehead, a laughing skull and a clear crescent, and a bright cobra emitting poison on the head on which the ray of the frontal eye which moves about in the catai.
உள் நிலாம் நினைப்பு உடையவர் யாவர் இவ்வுலகினில் உயர்வாரே
those who always meditate in their minds upon god are really superior people in this world.

{$} தூசு தான் அரைத் தோல் உடைக்கண்ணி அம்சுடர் விடு நறுங் கொன்றை பூசு வெண் பொடிப் பூசுவது அன்றியும் புகழ் புரிந்தவர் மேய, மாசு உலாம் பொழில் அரிசிலின் வடகரை வருபுனல் மாகாளம், பேசு நீர்மையர் யாவர்
those who have the good nature of praising mākāḷam on the north bank of the aricil which brings floods and where on the gardens the clouds move about, where Civaṉ who desired fame in addition to smearing himslef with white holy ash, wears brilliant and fragrant chaplet of koṉṟai and wears as a cloth in his waist, a skin.
இவ்வுலகினில் பெருமையைப் பெறுவாரே
will attain greatness in this world.

{$} பௌவம் ஆர்கடல் இலங்கையர் கோன் தனைப் பருவரைக் கீழ் ஊன்றி
pressing the King of the inhabitants of ilaṅkai which is surrounded by ocean with eddies and foam.
எவ்வம் தீர அன்று இமையவர்க்கு அருள்செய்த இறையவன் உறை கோயில்
the temple where the Lord who granted his grace to the celestials in the past to remove their sufferings.
மவ்வம் தோய் பொழில் அரிசிலின் வடகரை வருபுனல் மாகாளம் கவ்வையால் தொழும் அடியவர்மேல் விணைகனலிடைச் செதிள் அன்றே
the Karmams of the devotees who worship mākālam on the north bank of the aricil which brings freshes and has beautiful garden, with the loud noise of prayer will be destroyed like saw-dust put into fire.

{$} உய்யும் காரணம் உண்டு என்று கருதுமின்
(People of this world!) think that there is a means to save yourselves
ஒளிகிளர் மலரோனும் பைகொள் பாம்பு அணைப்பள்ளி கொள் அண்ணலும் பரவ நின்றவர்
Civaṉ who is praised by Piramaṉ who is seated in a brilliant (lotus) flower and the chief (Māl) who sleeps on the bad of a serpent which has many hoods.
மேய மாகாளம்
mākāḷam where he dwells.
மை உலாம் பொழில் அரிசிலின் வடகரை வருபுனல் மாகாளம் கையினால் தொழுது அவலமும் பிணியும் தம் கவலையும் களைவார்
those who worship with their joined hands mākāḷam on the north bank of the aricil will weed ot their pain, diseases and cares.

{$} பிண்டி பாலரும் பீலி கொண்டு உழல்வாரும், மண்டைகொள் தேரரும் கண்டநூலரும் கடுந்தொழிலாளரும் கழற நின்றவர் மேய மாகாளம்
mākāḷam where Civaṉ who stays to be abused by camanar who are attached to the asoka tree and who carry a bundle of peacock feathers, and buddhists who holds a begging bowl resembling in shape the skull who created their religious works and have cruel acts.
வண்டு உலாம் பொழில் அரிசிலின் வடகரை வருபுனல் மாகாளம் பண்டு நாம் செய்த பாவங்கள் பற்று அறப் பரவுதல் செய்வோமே
we shall praise mākāḷam on the north bank of the aricil which brings freshes and has gardens in which bees are wandering, so that the sins committed by us in previous births, and attachments might leave us.

{$} வருபுனல் மாகாளத்து மாறு தன்னொடு மண்மிசை இல்லது
in mākāḷam which has floods and has no other shrine comparable to it on the earth
ஈறும் ஆதியும் ஆகிய சோதியை ஏறு அமர்பெருமானை
on the effulgent light that is the end and beginning of all things and the Lord who rides on a bull.
நாறு பூம் பொழில் காழியுள் ஞானசம்பந்தன தமிழ் மாலை கூறு-வாரையும் கேட்கவல்லாரையும் குற்றங்கள் குறுகாவே
faults will not come near those who have the will to listen to, and recite, the garlands of tamiḻ verses composed by ñāṉacampantaṉ of Kāḻi which has fragrant flower-gardens.
