{$} ஒளிர் இளம் பிறை சென்னிமேல் உடையர்
Civaṉ has on his head a shining crescent.
கோவண ஆடையர்
wears a loin cloth
குளிர் இளம் மழை தவழ் பொழில் கோலம் நீர் மல்கு காவிரி நளிர் இளம் புனல் வார் துறை நங்கை கங்கையை நண்ணினார்
is united with the lady, Kaṅkai which has a long ghat of fresh and cool floods and the Kāviri which has beautiful and increasing water, and gardens in which the cool clouds laden with seem to crawl.

மிளிர் இளம் பொறி அரவினார் மேயது விள நகரதே
the place the god who has a shining and young cobra with spots desired to stay is Viḷanakar.

{$} அக்கு அரவு அணி கலன் என அதனொடு ஆர்த்தது ஓர் ஆமை பூண்டு
having adorned himself with the shell of a tortoise in addition to the bones and cobras which Civaṉ wears as ornaments.
உக்கவர் சுடுநீறு அணிந்து
having smeared himself with the holy ash of those who were cremated by fire;
ஒளி மல்கு புனற் காவிரிப் புக்கவர்
those who bathed in the Kāviri of shining water.
துயர் கெடுக எனப் பூசு வெண் பொடி மேவிய மிக்கவர் வழிபாடு செய்விளநகர் அவர் மேயதே
viḷanakar, is the place which Civaṉ desired where the superior persons who desired the white holy ash to be smeared on their bodies, saying Let our sufferings be destroyed

{$} வாளி சேர் அடங்கார் மதில் தொலைய நூறிய அம்பின்
Civaṉ has an arrow with which he destroyed by demolishing the forts of the enemies who had arrows.
வேய்த் தோளி பாகம் அமர்ந்தவர்
felt joy in having as a half a lady having shoulders as soft as bamboo. (The portion between two joints of a bamboo is compared to the shoulder;

உயர்ந்த தொல் கடல் 1. நஞ்சுண்ட காளம் மல்கிய கண்டத்தர்
has a neck of increasing black colour as a result of his drinking poison that rose in the ancient and great ocean.
கதிர் விரிசுடர் முடியினர்
has a caṭai coiled into a crown which spreads rays like the sun.
மீளி ஏறு உகந்து ஏறினார் மேயது விளநகரது
viḷanakar is the place that Civaṉ who rode with joy on an eminent bull, desires to dwell.

{$} கால் விளங்கு எரி கழலினார்
Civaṉ wears Kaḻal on his leg which is prominent and shining.
கை 1. இலங்கிய வேலினார்
holds a shining trident in his hand
நூல் விளங்கிய மார்பினார்
wears on his chest a prominent sacred thread.
நோய் இலார் பிறப்பும் இலார்
has no diseases and has no birth.
மால் இலங்கு ஒளி மல்கிய மாசு இலா மணி மிடறினார்
has Māl who is prominent on one half; has a neck like the flawless sapphire whose brilliance is increasing;

பாகம் மால் உடையார் போலும் (do. tirunākēccaram, 8);
திருமால் ஓர் பங்கன் தன்னை (do. Kuṟainta tirunēricai 7);
சீர் ஏறு திருமால் ஓர் பாகத்தான் காண் (do. tiruvārūr, taṇṭakam, (1) 5).]]
மேல் விளங்கு வெண் பிறையினார் மேயது விளநகரே
viḷanakar is the place desired by Civaṉ on whose head the white crescent is shining

{$} மறை பன்னினார் பாடினார்
Civaṉ revealed the vetams and sang them
(மறை should be linked both with பன்னினார் and பாடினார்)
பாய சீர்ப்பழங்காவிரித்துன்னு தண் துறை முன்னினார்
those who approached the cool ghat of the old Kāviri whose fame has spread far and wide and where people crowd (The name of Civaṉ in this shrine is துறை காட்டும் வள்ளல் it is hinted)
தூநெறி பெறுவார் என
to indicate that they will attain eternal bliss.
சென்னி திங்களைப் பொங்கு அராக்கங்கையோடு உடன் சேர்த்தினார்
joined together along with Kaṅkai an angry cobra, and a crescent, on his head.
மின்னு பொன் புரி நூலினார் மேயது விளநகரது
viḷanakar is the place desired by Civaṉ who wears a shining sacred thread of three strands made of gold.

{$} தேவரும் அமரர்களும் திசைகள் மேல் உள தெய்வமும்
the tevar who become so by doing sacrifices in this world, the immortals who were created as such, and the tēvar who are the guardian deities of the eight directions.
யாவரும் அறியாதது ஓர் அமைதியால் தழல் உருவினார்
assumed the form of fire as not to be known by anyone of those above mentioned
மூவரும் 1. இவர் என்னவும் முதல் வரும் 2. இவர் என்னவும் மேவரும் பொருள் ஆயினார்மேயது விளநகரது
viḷanakar is the place desired by the one who is loved by all as the cause of all things and the trinity who perform creation, protection and destruction

{$} சொல்தரும்(ம்) மறை பாடினார்
Civaṉ revealed the vētams which are to be memorized the words (ம் is an augmentation)
சுடர் விடும் சடை முடியினார்
has a caṭai coiled into a crown which sheds lustre.
கல் தரு (வ்) வடம் கையினார்
has a rosary of crytals in his hand (தருவ் வடம்: வ் is an augmentation for rhythm)
காவிரித் துறை காட்டினார்
showed to the devotees the ghat in Kāviri (The name of Civaṉ in this temple is known as துறைகாட்டும் வள்ளல்)
மல் தரும் திரள் தோளினார்
has round and strong shoulders
மாசு இல் வெண் பொடிப் பூசினார்
smeared himself with pure white holy ash.
வில் தரு மணி மிடறினார் மேயது விளநகரது
viḷanakar is the place where Civaṉ who has a beautiful neck that spreads light, dwells with desire.

{$} படர் தரும் சடை முடியினார்
-Civaṉ has a caṭai coiled into a crown which can spread at times.
பைங்கழல் அடி பரவுவார் அடர்தரும் பிணி கெடுக என அருளுவார்
will bestow his grace on the devotees who praise his feet wearing golden Kaḻal, Let the diseases that afflict them be destroyed.
அரவு அரையினார்
has tied a cobra in the waist
விடர் தரும் மணி மிடறினார்
has a neck that resembles the sapphire that is got from the clefts in the mountain.
மின்னு பொன் புரி நூலினார்
wears a glittering sacred thread of three strands made of gold (cf. 4th line, verse 5 of this decade)
மிடல் தரும் படை மழுவினார் மேயது வளநகரது
viḷanakar is the place which Civaṉ who holds a strong weapon of a battle-axe, desires to dwell.

{$} கை இலங்கிய வேலினார்
Civaṉ holds in his hand a shining trident
தோலினார்
wears an elephant`s skin and a tiger`s skin
கரி காலினார்
the only survivor after everything else is destroyed and burnt. (கால் - காலம்: time of destruction)
பை இலங்கு அரவு அல்குலாள் பாகம் ஆகிய பரமனார்
the supreme god who has as his half a lady whose waist is like the prominent hood of a cobra.
மை இலங்கு ஒளி மல்கிய மாசு இலா மணி மிடறினார்
has a neck which can be compared to a flawless sapphire and which has increasing brightness like the cloud (மை - மேகம்: clouds; it means also blackness)

மெய் இலங்கு வெண்ணீற்றினார் மேயது வளநகரது
viḷanakar is the place desired by Civaṉ who has smeared on his body shining white sacred ash.

{$} உள்ளதன் தனைக் கீழ் காண்பன் என்ற மாமணி வண்ணனும்
Māl who has the colour of the sapphire and who was determined to see below, the truth which is everywhere.
உள்ளதன்தனை மேல் காண்பன் என்ற மாமலர் அண்ணலும்
the Piramaṉ who is seated in a big (lotus) flower and who was determined to sea above, the truth which is everywhere
உள்ளதன்தனைக் கண்டிலார்
could not find out the truth in both places.
ஒளி ஆர் தரும் சடை முடியின் மேல் உள்ளதன் தனைக் கண்டிலா ஒளியார் மேயதே விளநகர்
viḷankar is the place desired by the light which could not be found in either place who has a caṭai coiled into a crown which is full of lustre
(உள்ளது the thing that is eternal)

{$} மென்சிறை வண்டு யாழ் முரல் விள நகர்த்துறை மேவிய நன் பிறை நுதல் அண்ணலை
about Civaṉ who has the beautiful crescent on his forehead and who dwells in the ghat of viḷanakar where the soft-winged bees buzz like the music produced on yāḻ
சண்பை ஞானசம்பந்தன் சீர் இன்புறு தமிழாற் சொன்ன ஏத்துவார்
those wh praise with the tamiḻ verses of fame which give pleasure, and were composed by ñāṉacampantaṉ of caṇpai.
வினை நீங்கிப் போய் துன்பு உறு துயரம் இலர்; தூநெறிபெறுவார்களே
will attai eternal bliss; will not suffer from afflictions and mental worries as a result of those, as they are free from Karmams.
