you have on your chest a bright and attractive sacred thread.
பூதப் படையீர்
have an army of pūtams.
பூங்கங்கைதங்கு செஞ்சடையீர்
have a red caṭai on which the shining Kaṅkai stays.
சாமவேதம் ஓதினீர்
you chanted Cāma Vētam.

you rejoiced in dwelling in the temple in iṭaimarutu which touches the clouds, as the fitting temple for you

{$} நீர் ஆர்ந்த செஞ்சடையீர்
you have a red caṭai which is full of water of the Kaṅkai
நெற்றித்திருக்கண் நிகழ்வித்தீர்
you created the frontal eye.

you had on one half a lady wearing a jewelled girdle of 7 or 8 strands of exquisite beauty.
இடைமருதில் சீர் ஆர்ந்த கோயிலே கோயிலாகச் சேர்ந்தீரே
you dwelt in the temple with great distinction as the temple fitting your greatness.

{$} மல்கும் அங்கையில் அழல் ஏந்தி
holding fire in the palm of increasing beauty.
பூதம் அவை பாட
when the putams are singing
சுழல் மல்கும் ஆடலீர்
you perform a dance of increasing whirling
சுடுகாடு அல்லால் கருதாதீர்
you do not consider any other place than the cremation ground as your place.
எழில் மல்கும் நான் மறையோர் முறையால் ஏத்த
the beautiful brahmins who have learnt the four vētam-s to worship you in the proper manner.
இடைமருதில் பொழில் மல்கு கோயிலே கோயிலாகப் பொலிந்தீரே
you were shining in the temple which has flourishing gardens in Iṭaimarutu, as the temple fitting your greatness.

{$} பொல்லாப் படுதலை ஒன்று ஏந்தி
holding a dead skull which is ugly-looking.
புறங்காட்டு ஆடலீர்
you dance in the cremation ground outside the village.
வில்லால் புரம் மூன்று எரித்தீர்
you burnt the three cities with a bow (discharging an arrow from it)
விடை ஆர் கொடியினீர்
you have a flag on which the form of a bull is drawn.
எல்லாக் கணங்களும் முறையால் ஏத்த
all the eighteen groups of celestials and Civakaṇam to worship you in the proper manner.
இடை மருதில் செல்வு ஆய கோயிலே கோயிலாகச் சேர்ந்தீரே
you dwelt in the wealthy temple in iṭaimarutu as the temple fitting your greatness

{$} வருந்திய மாதவத்தோர் வானோர் ஏனோர் வந்து ஈண்டி
the great sages who underwent physical sufferings, the celestials and other people having come there crowding.
பொருந்திய தைப்பூசம் ஆடி உலகம் பொலிவு எய்த
the people of the world having bathed in pūcam in the month of tai which is appropriate to this shrine, to attain splendour

இடை மருதில் புலம் மல்கு கோயிலே கோயிலாகப் புக்கீரே
you entered into the temple in iṭaimarutu where knowledge flourishes, as the temple fitting your greatness.

{$} சலம் மல்கு செஞ்சடையீர்
you have a red caṭai which is full of water.
சாந்தம் நீறு பூசினீர்
you smeared yourself with holy ash as sandal-paste.
வலம் மல்கு வெண் மழு ஒன்று ஏந்தி
holding a white battle-axe of increasing victory

மயானத்து ஆடலீர்
you dance in the cremation ground.
இலம் மல்கு நான் மறையோர் இனிதாய் ஏத்த
the brahmins who are well-versed in all the four vētams and have their own houses which are in properous condition, to worship you with pleasure.
இடை மருதில் புலம் மல்கு கோயிலே கோயிலாகப் பொலிந்தீரே
you were shining in the temple which increases one`s knowledge, in iṭaimarutu as the temple fitting your greatness.

{$} புனம் மல்கு கொன்றையீர்
you adorn yourself with the koṉṟai flowers which grow abundantly in the forest tract.
புலியின் அதளீர்
you wear a tiger's skin.
பொலிவு ஆர்ந்த சினம் மல்கு மால் விடையீர்
you have a big bull of exquisite beauty and increasing anger.
செய்யீர்; கரிய கண்டத்தீர்
you are red in colours, and you have a black neck.
இனம் மல்கு நான் மறையோர் ஏத்தும் சீர் கொள் இடை மருதில் கனம் மல்கு கோயிலே கோயிலாகக் கலந்தீரே
you joined in the temple on which clouds are on the increase, in the famous iṭaimarutu where the groups of brahmins well-versed in the four vētams worship.

{$} சிலை உய்த்த வெங்கணையால் புரம் மூன்று எரித்தீர்
you burnt the three cities by a cruel arrow discharged from a bow
[[வெங்கணை may also mean an arrow which has the god of fire in it.]]
திறல் அரக்கன் தலை பத்தும் திண்தோளும் நெரித்தீர்
you crushed the ten heads and strong shoulders of powerful arakkaṉ
தையல் பாகத்தீர்
you have a young lady as a half
இலை மொய்த்த தண் பொழிலும் வயலும் சூழ்ந்த இடை மருதில்
in iṭaimarutu which is surrounded by fields and cool gardens where leaves are dense
நலம் மொய்த்த கோயிலே கோயிலாக நயந்தீரே
you desired the temple of abundant beauty as the temple fitting your greatness.

{$} மறை மல்கு நான் முகனும் மாலும் அறியா வண்ணத்தீர்
you have a nature which the four-faced Piramaṉ in whom the Vetam-s are flourishing, and Māl could not find out
கறைமல்கு கண்டத்தீர்
you have a neck that has dark black colour.
கபாலம் ஏந்து கையினீர்
you hold in your hand a skull.
அறை மல்கு வண்டினங்கள் ஆலும் சோலை இடைமருதில்
in iṭaimarutu which has gardens where the swarms of beetles which make a great noise hum.
நிறைமல்கு கோயிலே கோயிலாக நிகழ்ந்தீரே
you were present in the temple where everything is complete and nothing is wanting, as the temple fitting your greatness.

{$} சின்போர்வைச் சாக்கியரும்
Cākkiyar - (buddhists) who cover their bodies

[[PP: அவற்றுள் இகுமும் சின்னும் ஏனை இடத்தொடும், தகு நிலை உடைய என்மனார் புலவர் (tolkāppiyam, iṭai iyal, 27)]]
மாசு சேரும் சமணரும்
camaṇar on whose bodies dirt is accumulated.
துன்பு ஆய கட்டு உரைகள் சொல்லி அல்லல் தூற்றவே
[while they] spread evil by speaking fabricated words which give suffering to devotees.
இன்பு ஆய அந்தணர்கள் ஏத்தும் எர்கொள் இடைமருதில்
in the beautiful iṭaimarutu where lovable brahmins praise you.
அன்பு ஆயகோயிலே கோயிலாக அமர்ந்தீரே
you desired to stay in the temple which is worthy of love as the temple fitting your greatness.

{$} கல்லின் மணிமாடக் கழுமலத்தார் காவலவன்
the master of the inhabitants of Kaḻumalan which has beautiful storeys built of granite.
நல்ல அருமறையான் நற்றமிழ் ஞானசம்பந்தன்
and Ñāṉacampantaṉ who is an expert in good tamiḻ and has learnt the good and abstruse vetams.
எல்லி இடைமருதில் ஏத்து பாடல் இவை பத்தும் சொல்லுவார்க்கும் கேட்பார்க்கும் துயரம் (1) இல்லையே
there will be no sufferings to those who recite these ten songs which were composed in praise of Iṭaimarutu at night and to those who hear them.
