on the red caṭai which glitters like the lightning.
விளங்கும் மதி மத்தமொடு நல்ல பொன் இயல் கொன்றையினான்
Civaṉ who wears along with the shining crescent datura flowers and flawless koṉṟai which is like gold in colour.

(2) பொற்பு அமரும் அன்னம் அன நடையாள் ஒரு பாகத்து அமர்ந்தருளி
Having placed with desire a lady who has a gait like the graceful swan, on one half.

pātaḷ is the temple where Civaṉ who daily sings songs dwells.

{$} நீடு அலர்கொன்றையொடு நிரம்பாமதிசூடி
wearing with the long flowers of koṉṟai a crescent.
வெள்ளைத்தோடு அமர் காதில் நல்ல குழையான்
wears a men's ear-ring in the ear in which there is women's ear-ring made of pearls;

சுடு நீற்றான்
smears himself with well burnt sacred ash.
ஆடு அரவம்பெருக அனல்ஏந்திக் கைவீசி

வேதம் பாடலினால் இனியான் உறைகோயில் பாதாளே
pātaḷ is the temple where Civaṉ sings sweetly the vētams, dwells.

{$} நாகமும் வான்மதியும் நலம் மல்கு செஞ்சடையான்
Civaṉ has a red caṭai on which a cobra and a crescent that shines in the sky, are increasing in beauty (if வான்மதி is split into வால்மதி the meanings is white crescent)

when the midnight elapsed.
நல்வில் வரையால் புரம் மூன்று எரித்து உகந்தான்
became great by burning the three cities with a good mountain converted into a bow.
தோகை நன் மாமயில் போல் வளர் சாயல் தூமொழியைக் கூடப்பாகமும் வைத்து உகந்தான் உறைகோயில் பாதாளே
Pātāḷ is the temple where Civaṉ who felt pleasure in having on one half a lady who speaks blemishless words and who has an increasing gentleness like the good and big peacock which has a big tail.

{$} அங்கமும் நான்மறையும் அருள் செய்து
being the author of six aṅkams and the four vētams.
அழகு ஆர்ந்த அம் சொல் மங்கை ஓர் கூறு உடையான்
Civaṉ has a lady of exquisite beauty speaking beautiful words, on one half.
மறையான் உறைகோயில்
the temple where he who is the brahmin among gods, dwells.
செங்கயல் நின்று உகளும் செறுவில் திகழ்கின்ற சோதிப் பங்கயம் நின்று அலரும் வயல் சூழ்ந்த பாதாளே
is pātaḷ which is surrounded by fields where the lotus blossoms always, which are shining brilliantly in the tanks where the red carp is always frisking.

{$} பேய் பலவும் நிலவு அப் பெருங்காடு அரங்காக உன்னி நின்று
thinking of that big cremation-ground in which many pēy are moving, and standing there.
தீயொடு மான்மறியும் மழுவும் திகழ்வித்து
causing the fire, young one of a deer, and a battle-axe to be eminent.
தேய்பிறையும்(ம்) அரவும் பொலி கொன்றைச் (1) சடை தன்மேல் சேர
to join on the caṭai wearing koṉṟai flowers, on which the waning crescent and cobra are conspicuous.
பாய் புனலும்(ம்) உடையான் உறைகோயில் பாதாளே
pātāḷ is the temple of Civaṉ who has swift-flowing water also.

Civaṉ has a forehead in which there is an additional eye.
கமழ் கொன்றைச் சடைமேல் (1) நன்று விண்இயல் மாமதியும் உடன் வைத்தவன்
and placed on the caṭai which wears fragrant koṉṟai, the big crescent which moves in the sky brightly along with it.
விரும்பும் பெண் அமர் மேனியினான்
has on his body a lady who loves him.
பெருங்காடு அரங்காக ஆடும் பண் இயல் பாடலினான் உறைகோயில் பாதாளே
pātāḷ is the temple where Civaṉ who sings songs set to melody-types and dances, having the big cremation ground as his stage, dwells.

{$} விண்டு அலர் மத்தமொடு மிளிரும் இளநாகம் வன்னிதிகழ் வண்டு அலர்கொன்றை நகுமதிபுல்கு வார் சடையான்
Civaṉ has a long caṭai in which are crowded the datura flowers which blossom unfolding their petals, a shining young cobra, leaves of indian mesquit, glittering koṉṟai which blossoms to the humming of bees and a shining crescent.
விண்டவர்தம் புரம் மூன்று எரிசெய்து
having burnt the three cities of the enemies.
உரை வேதம் நான்கும் அவை பண்டு இசை பாடலினான் உறை கோயில் பாதாளே
pāṭāl is the temple where Civaṉ who revealed the four vētams and sang them setting them to music long ago.

{$} மல்கிய நுண்இடையாள் உமைநங்கை மறுக
Umai, the lady of distinction who has a waist of increasing minuteness to whirl in her mind.
அன்றுகையால் தொல்லை மலை எடுத்த அரக்கன் தலை தோள் நெரித்தான்
Civaṉ who crushed the heads and shoulders of the arakkaṉ who lifted the ancient mountain with his hands, in the distant past.
கொல்லைவிடை உகந்தான்
who rejoiced riding on a bull belonging to the forest tract.
குளிர்திங்கள் சடைக்கு (1) அணிந்தோன்
who adorned his caṭai with a cool crescent.
பல்இசை பாடலினான் உறை கோயில் பாதாளே
pātāḷ is the temple where he sings many melody types dwells.

{$} தாமரைமேல் அயனும் அரியும்
Piramaṉ who is sitting on a lotus and ari - (tirumāl)
தமது ஆள் வினையால் தேடிக் காமனை வீடுவித்தான் கழல் காண்பிலராய் அகன்றார்
gave up their search without being able to see the feet and head of Civaṉ who destroyed Kāmaṉ (cupid), by their own efforts.
பூமருவும் குழலாள் உமை நங்கை பொருந்தியிட்ட நல்ல பாமருவும் குணத்தான் உறைகோயில் பாதாளே
pāṭāḷ is the temple where Civaṉ whose attributes are sung in songs and who was united with Umai, a lady of distinction and who has tresses of hair into which flowers are tucked.

{$} காலையில் உண்பவரும் சமண்கையரும் கட்டுரைவிட்டு
discarding as of no substance the fabricated words of the buddhists who eat in the early morning and the low camaṇar.
அன்று ஆலவிடம் நுகர்ந்தான் (அவன்) தன் அடியே பரவி
praising only the feet of Civaṉ who consumed the poison, by name ālam in the distant past.
மாலையில் வண்டு இனங்கள் மதுஉண்டு இசைமுரல வாய்த்த பாலை யாழ்ப் பாட்டு உகந்தான் உறைகோயில் பாதாளே
pāṭāl is the temple where Civaṉ who rejoiced in hearing the songs of pāṭāḷ yāḻ which is appropriate to the region when the swarms of bees drink the honey in flowers in the evening and hum like music dwells.

{$} பல்மலர் வைகுபொழில் சூழ்ந்த பாதாளைச் சேர
to suit pāṭāḷ which is surrounded by gardens where many kinds of flowers are to be found.
பொன் இயல் மாடம் மல்கு புகலி(ந்)நகர் மன்னன்
the chief of the city of pukali where beautiful storeys are flourishing.
தன் ஒளிமிக்கு உயர்ந்த தமிழ் ஞானசம்பந்தன சொன்ன இன்இசை பத்தும் வல்லார்
those who are able to recite the ten verses of sweet music composed by ñāṉacampantaṉ having good knowledge of tamiḻ and great by his increasing divine lustre of the soul.
எழில் வானத்து இருப்பார் (ஏ)
will dwell after life in this world comes to an end, in heaven.
