the temple where Civaṉ who destroyed the three wandering cities, having as a bow the precious golden mountain, Meru, and fixing in the bow-string fire as an arrow.
தெரிந்த அடியார்கள் சென்ற திசைதோறும் விரும்பி எதிர் கொள்வார் வீழிமிழலையே
is Vīḻimiḻalai where discerning devotees welcome and receive with desire, devotees who may reach by whatever way that shrine.

{$} வாதைப்படுகின்ற வானோர் துயர்தீர, ஓதக்கடல் நஞ்சை உண்டான் உறைகோயில்
the temple where Civaṉ who consumed the poison to remove the sufferings of the celestials who had mental torment.
கீதத்து இசையோடும் கேள்விக்கிடையோடும் வேதத்து ஒலி ஓவாவீழிமிழலையே
is viḻimiḻalai where the sound of reciting vētam by disciple does not cease, along with the music of songs,

{$} பயிலும் மறையாளன் தலையில் பலிகொண்டு
receiving alms in the skull of Piramaṉ who is known as one who is practising chanting vētams.
துயிலும் பொழுது ஆடும் சோதி உறைகோயில்
the light, Civaṉ who dances at midnight when everything is fast asleep.
மயிலும் மடமானும் மதியும் இளவேயும் வெயிலும் (1) பொலி மாதர் வீழிமிழலையே
is viḻimiḻalai where ladies are shining like the peacock, tender deer, the moon, the young bamboo, and the sunlight
[[Peacock denotes their gentleness, young deer their looks, moon their face, bamboo their shoulders, sunlight their chastity.]]

இரவன் பகலோனும் இமையோரை நிரவிட்டு அருள்செய்த நிமிலன் உறைகோயில்
the temple where the spotless Civaṉ dwells who punished the moon, the sun and other tēvars and then granted his grace.
குரவம், சுரபுன்னை, குளிர்கோங்கு, இளவேங்கை விரவும் பொழில் அம்தண் வீழிமிழலையே
is Vīḻimiḻalai which has gardens in which young east indian kino trees, cool common caung, curapuṉṉai (nākaliṅkam) and bottle-flower trees are mixed.

{$} கண்ணில் கனலாலே காமன் பொடியாக
having burnt Kāmaṉ with the fire issuing from the frontal eye, to become ash.
பெண்ணுக்கு அருள்செய்த பெருமான் உறைகோயில்
the temple where the Lord who granted his grace to his wife, rati; this is mentioned in the following verses in tēvāram itself.

Some people take பெண் to mean pārvati; but this is a better meaning.]]
மண்ணில் பெருவேள்விவளர் தீப்புகை நாளும், விண்ணில் புயல் காட்டும் வீழிமிழலையே
is vīḻimiḻalai where the smoke that rises from the big sacrifices performed in this world appear like clouds in the sky.

{$} மால் ஆயிரம் கொண்டு மலர்க்கண் இட ஆழி, ஏலாவலயத்தோடு ஈந்தான் உறைகோயில்
the temple where Civaṉ who granteda discus with a ring that could not be born when Māl worshipped daily with one thousand lotus flowers and on the final day when one flower was wanting, be scooped his lotus eye and laid it at the feet of Civaṉ (some words have been supplied to complete the sense; this is a lengend about this shrine).
சேல் ஆகிய பொய்கைச் செழுநீர்க் கமலங்கள் மேலால் உரி காட்டும் வீழிமிழலையே
is vīḻimiḻalai where in the natural tanks full of carp fish the fertile lotus flowers appear like fire above water.

{$} மதியால் வழிபட்டான் வாணாள் கொடுபோவான், கொதியாவரு கூற்றைக் (1) குமைத்தான் உறைகோயில்
the temple of Civaṉ who trod upon the god of death who came enraged to snatch the life of (markkaṇtēyaṉ) who worshipped Civaṉ with discernment.
நெதியால் மிகுசெல்வர் நித்த நியமங்கள் விதியால் நிற்கின்றார் வீழிமிழலை
is vīḻimiḻalai where very rich people who possess every kind of wealth stand firmly in their daily routines according to prescribed rules.

{$} எடுத்தான் தருக்கினை விரல் ஊன்றி இழித்தான்
Civaṉ let down the pride of Irāvaṇaṉ who lifted the mountain, by pressing the toe.
கொடுத்தான் வாள்; ஆளாக்கொண்டான் உறைகோயில்
the temple of the god who gave a sword and admitted him as his protege.
மறைபடித்தார், வேள்விபயின்றார்; பாவத்தை விடுத்தார் மிகவாழும் வீழிமிழலையே
is vīḻimiḻalai where brahmins who learnt the vētams, practised performance to sacrifices and gave up sins live in large members.

{$} கிடந்தார் (உம்) இருந்தானும் கீழ்மேல் காணாது தொடர்ந்து ஆங்கு அவர் ஏத்தச் சுடர் ஆயவன் கோயில்
the temple of Civaṉ who took the form of fire to be praised by Māl who is lying and Piramaṉ who is seated and both could not see the head and feet in the earth and the sky, following it.
படம் தாங்கு அரவு அல்குல் பவளத்துவர் வாய்மேல் விடம் தாங்கிய கண்ணார் வீழிமிழலையே
is vīḻimiḻalai which has ladies who hard poison in their eyes which are above the red lips like coral, and a waist like the cobra with a hood.

{$} சிக்கு ஆர்துவர் ஆடைச் சிறுதட்டு உடையாரும் நக்கு ஆங்கு அலர் தூற்றும் நம்பான் உறைகோயில்
the temple of Civaṉ who is spokenslanderously by buddhists who wear a dress soaked in red ochre issuing a rancid smell of oil and camaṇar who dress with mats with derisive laugh.
தக்கார் மறை வேள்வித் தலையாய் உலகுக்கு மிக்கார் அவர்வாழும் வீழிமிழலையே
is vīḻimiḻalai where superior people in the world and eminent by performing sacrifices prescribed in the vētams and worthy persons live.

{$} மேல் நின்று இழிகோயில் வீழிமிழலையுள், ஏனத்து எயிற்றானை
on Civaṉ who wears a hog's tusk and dwells in the temple which descended from heaven, in vīḻimiḻalai.

திருமிழலை, மடங்கல் பூண்ட விமானம் மண்மிசை வந்து இழிச்சிய வான நாட்டையும் அடங்கல் வீழிகொண்டீர் (cuntarar, tiruvīḻimiḻalai, 2)]]
எழில் ஆர்பொழில் காழி, ஞானத்து உயர்கின்ற நலம்கொள் சம்பந்தன் (1) வாய்மைத்து இசை சொல்ல வல்லோர் நல்லோரே
those who are able to recite these songs which contain truths and composed by campantaṉ who is eminent by his knowledge of Civaṉ and a native of Kāḻi which has beautiful gardens, are good people.
