தீ மேவும் தொழிலார்
and perform act of maintaining the sacrificial fires.
நால்வேதம் சொல்லார் கேண்மையார்
and have such intimacy to recite the four vetams.

சுடர்பொற்கழல் ஏத்த
to praise his shining beautiful feet.
வில்லால் புரம் செற்றான் மேவும் பதி (போலும்), கல் ஆர் மதில் சூழ்ந்தகாழி(ந்) நகர்தானே
the city of Kāḻi which is surrounded by a wall of enclosure built resembling a hill is the city where the god who destroyed the cities with a bow, resides.

{$} வண்தோள் துளிபாயும் இதழி தூமத்தம், தெளி வெண்திங்கள் மாசுணம் நீர்திகழ் சென்னி, ஒளி வெண்தலைமாலை உகந்தான் ஊர் (போலும்)
The place of the god who desired a bright garland of skulls on his head on which the water (of Kaṅkai), cobra, clear and white crescent moon, pure chatura flowers and flowers of indian laburnum from which abundant honey drips, are shining.
களிவண்டு யாழ்செய்யும் காழி(ந்)நகர்(தானே)
is the city of Kāḻi where the delightful bees hum like the music of yāḻ.

{$} ஆலக் கோலத்தின் நஞ்சு உண்டு
Having drunk the poison which rose in the form of ālam (in the ocean of milk)
அமுதத்தைச் சாலத் தேவர்க்கு ஈந்து அளித்தான்
The god gave the tēvar nectar in abundance and saved them from death.
தன்மையால், பாலற்காய் நன்றும் பரிந்து, பாதத்தால், காலற் காய்ந்தான் ஊர்காழி(ந்) நகர் (தானே)
the city of Kāḻi is the place of the god who killed Kālaṉ (the god of death) by his foot, being very much affectionate towards the young boy (mārkaṇṭēyaṉ) in conformity with his nature (of protecting people who seek refuge in him)

Having levelled the twenty shoulders of the king of people who move about in the night (இரவில் திரிவோர் cf. skt. நிசாசரர்)
கரவானை நேர்ந்தான்இடம் (போலும்)
the place of the god who gave him a dagger.
பரவித்திரிவோர்க்கும் பால் நீறு அணிவோர்க்கும் கரவுஇல் தடக்கையார் காழி(ந்)நகர் (தானே)
is the city of Kāḻi where there are people who liberally give without concealing, to those who wander about praising god and those who smear sacred ash as white as milk, what they want (கரவிற்டக்கையார் has become கரவிற்றடக்கையார் to be in conformity with the previous three lines).

{$} மாலும் பிரமனும் அறியா மாட்சியான்
the god whose greatness could not be found out by Māl and Piramaṉ.
தோலும் புரிநூலும் துதைந்தவரை மார்பன்
he has a chest like the hill, on which the skin and sacred thread of many strands are close to each other.
இரந்தார்க்கு எந்நாளும், காலம் பகராதார் காழிந்நகர் (தானே) ஏலும் பதிபோலும்
the suitable place for him is the city of Kāḻi where there are munificent people who do not at any time fix a time limit to supplicants, postponing their donations.

without paying attention to the evil or corrupt practices.
தம்கையிட உண்பார்
of the jains who eat food placed on their hands,
தாழ்சீவரத்தார்கள்
and buddhists who don yellow robes (cīvaram) hanging low.
மங்கை ஒருபாகம் மகிழ்ந்தான் மலர்ச்சென்னிக் கங்கை தரித்தான் ஊர்காழி(ந்) நகர் (தானே) பேணித் தொழுமின்கள்
people of this world! worship with regard the city of Kāḻi which is the place of the god who bore on his head adorned with fowers, Kaṅkai and who rejoiced in having as his half a young lady.

{$} இணைஇல் சம்பந்தன்
campantaṉ who has no equal.
மதி செஞ்சடை வைத்த ஈசன் வாசம் கமழ் காழி நகர் தன்னைப் பேசும் தமிழ்வல்லோர்
those who are able to recite the Tamiḻ songs composed by him upon the city of Kāḻi which spreads fragrance and belongs to the Lord who placed the crescent moon on his red caṭai.
பெருநீர் உலகத்துப்பாசம் தனை அற்றுப் பழியில் புகழாரே
are people who have a fame without any blot, having cut down all desires in the world girt by the ocean.
