{$} வானில் பொலிவு எய்தும் மழைமேகம் கிழித்து ஓடிக்கூனற்பிறை சேரும் குளிர் சாரல் கொடுங்குன்றம்
Koṭunkuṉṟam in whose cool slopes the curved crescent having torn the cloud which is about to rain and attains splendour in the sky, runs and joins.
(1) ஆனில் பொலி ஐந்தும் அமர்ந்து ஆடி
bathing with desire in the five renowned products of the cow.
உலகு ஏத்த
to be praised by the people of this world.
தேனின் பொலி பொழியாளொடு மேயான் திருநகரே
is the wealthy city of Civaṉ who dwells with desire with a lady whose words are celebrated to be as sweet as the honey.

{$} மயில் புல்கு தண்பெடையோடு உடன் ஆடும் வளர்சாரல்குயில் இன்னிசை பாடும் குளிர்சோலைக் கொடுங்குன்றம்
Koṭuṅkuṉṟam which has cool gardens in which the indian cuckoo sings in the slopes where many trees grow and where the male peacock that embraces its cool female, plays together.
அயில்வேல்மலி நெடுவெஞ்சுடர் அனல் ஏந்திநின்று ஆடி
dancing in the standing posture holding a tall hot fire of brilliance and holding a sharp trident.
எயில் முன்பட எய்தான் (அவன்) (1) மேய(வ்) எழில் நகரே
is the beautiful city of Civaṉ who long ago shot an arrow to destroy the forts, and who dwells there with desire.

{$} மிளிரும் மணி பைம்பொன்னொடு விரைமாமலர் உந்திக் குளிரும் புனல் பாயும் சாரல் கொடுங்குன்றம்
Koṭuṅkuṉṟam in whose cool slopes cool water which flows pushing the gleaming gems, pure gold, and big fragrant flowers.
கிளர் கங்கையொடு இளவெண்மதி கெழுவும் சடைதன்மேல் வளர்கொன்றையும் மதமத்தமும் வைத்தான் வளநகரே
is the wealthy city of Civaṉ who placed on his caṭai the young white crescent and rising Kaṅkai to be united, thriving koṉṟai flowers and datura flowers.

{$} பருமா மதகரியோடு அரி (1) இழியும் விரிசாரல் குருமாமணி பொன்னோடு இழி அருவிக் கொடுங்குன்றம்
Koṭuṅkuṉṟam which has streams which descend with gold and bright gems in the extensive slopes where the lions descend along with the big elephants which have must.
பொருமா எயில் வரைவில் தரு கணையின் பொடிசெய்த பெருமான்(அவன்) உமையாளொடும் மேவும் பெருநகரே
is the big city where Civaṉ who reduced to dust with a single arrow discharged from the bow of a mountain the big forts which can give battle.

{$} மேகத்து இடிகுரல் வந்து எழவெருவி(வ்) வரை இழியும் கூகைக்குலம் ஓடித்திரி சாரல் கொடுங்குன்றம்
Koṭuṅkuṉṟam in whose slopes the flocks of rock horned-owls run and wander about, when they descend down the mountain being frightened when the sound of the thunder was produced in the clouds.
நாகத்தொடும் இளவெண்பிறை சூழ்(ந்) நலமங்கை பாகத்தவன் இமையோர் தொழ மேவும் பழநகரே
is the ancient city where Civaṉ who has a beautiful lady of distinction as a half, having worn on his head a young white crescent along with a cobra and dwells to be worshipped by the celestials who do not wink.

{$} கைம்மாமத கரியின் இனம் இடியின் குரல் அதிர
when the sound of the thunder reverberates the herd of frenzied and big elephants with long trunks.
கொய்ம்மாமலர்ச் சோலை புக மண்டும் கொடுங்குன்றம்
Koṭunkuṉṟam where they move swiftly to get into the gardens of big flowers which can be plucked.
அம்மான் என உள்கித் தொழுவார்கட்கு அருள் செய்யும் பெம்மான்(அவன்) இமையோர் தொழ மேவும் பெருநகரே
is the big city where the god with greatness grants to those who meditate on him as their father, the god who dwells to be worshipped by the celestials who do not wink.

{$} மரவத்தொடு மணமாதவி மௌவல்(ல்) (அது) விண்ட குரவத்தொடு விரவும் பொழில் சூழ்தண் கொடுங்குன்றம்
cool Koṭuṅkuṉṟam which is surrounded by gardens where common cadamba trees, fragrant common delight of the woods, jasmine and blossomed bottle-flowers are mingled.
அரவத்தொடும் இளவெண்பிறை விரவும் மலர்க்கொன்றை நிரவச் சடை முடிமேல் உடன் வைத்தான் நெடுநகரே
is the long city of Civaṉ who placed on his caṭai coiled into a crown in addition to a cobra, young white crescent and mingling koṉṟai flowers to fill up the space.

{$} முட்டா முதுகரியின் இனம் முதுவேய்களை முனிந்து
the hord of old elephants which had no hindrance having disliked the old bamboos.
குட்டாச்சுனை(அவை) மண்டி நின்று ஆடும் கொடுங்குன்றம்
Koṭuṅkuṉṟam where they bathe for a long time moving swiftly in the deep mountain springs.
[[குட்டச்சுனை has become குட்டாச்சுனை to be in keeping with rhyme this is a poetic licence consisting in the lengthening of a short vowel into a long one]]
ஓட்டா (1) அரக்கன்தன் முடி ஒரபஃது(அவை) உடனே பிட்டான் (அவன்) உமையாளொடும் மேவும் பெருநகரே
is the big city of Civaṉ who broke to pieces simultaneously the ten heads of the arakkaṉ who was not friendly with anybody, dwells with desire with Umayāḷ.

{$} அறையும் அரிகுரல் ஓசையை அஞ்சி அடும்யானை குறையும் மனம்(ம்) ஆகி(ம்) முழை வைகும் கொடுங்குன்றம்
Koṭuṅkuṉṟam where in the caves the elephants which are capable of killing, having lost courage by being afraid of the roaring noise of the lions capable of killing their preys by striking them with the forelegs, stay.
மறையும்(ம்) (அவை) உடையான் என நெடியான் என இவர்கள் இறையும்(ம்) அறிவு ஒண்ணாதவன் (1) மேய(வ்) எழில் நகரே
is the beautiful city where both Piramaṉ who is well-versed in the Vētam-s and the tall Māl were not capable of knowing even a little of Civaṉ who dwells there with desire.

{$} மத்தக்களிறு ஆளி(வ்) வர அஞ்சி(ம்) (1) மலைதன்னைக் குத்திப் பெருமுழைதன்னிடை வைகும் கொடுங்குன்றம்
Koṭuṅkuṉṟam where in the caves the frenzied elephants being afraid of the lions stay, piercing the mountain with their tusks.
புத்தரொடு பொல்லா மனச்சமணர் புறங்கூற
camanar with evil minds to spread slander along with the buddhists.
பத்தர்க்கு அருள் செய்தான்(அவன்) மேய பழநகரே
is the ancient city of Civaṉ who granted his grace to his devoted votaries and dwells with desire.

{$} கூனல்பிறை சடைமேல் மிக உடையான் கொடுங்குன்றை
on Koṭuṅkuṉṟam of Civaṉ who has a curved crescent waxing on his caṭai.
கானல் கழுமலமாநகர்த் தலைவன்(ன்) நலகவுணி ஞானத்து உயர் சம்பந்தன நலம் கொள் தமிழ் வல்லார்
those who are capable of reciting the excellent Tamiḻ verses of Campantaṉ who is great by his spiritual knowledge, who was born in Kauṇtiṉiya Kōttiram and who is the chief of the big city of Kaḻumalam which has sea-shore gardens.
ஊனத்தொடு துயர்தீர்ந்து உலகு ஏத்தும்(ம்) எழிலோரே
are people who are praised for their imposing appearance being freed from faults and sufferings.
