General information on Districts and Taluks

Since a lot of changes have constantly been taking place in the administrative divisions of South India, no information concerning the taluks and districts of Tamil Nadu can be given independently of dates. The present study has drawn its data regarding the location of towns and villages from a variety of sources, the most important being:

• NIC_2000: World Wide Web site NIC-GIS
  of the National Informatics Center (NIC), Tamil Nadu State Unit, where were available during year 2000 several lists, giving the names of the
  30 districts,
  206 taluks,
  383 development blocks,
  16300 villages,
  830 towns, municipalities, municipal corporations, etc.
• ALV_1930: Alphabetical List of Villages in the Taluks and Districts of the Madras Presidency, corrected upto September 1930 (1998 A.E.S. reprint of the 1933 edition):
